Johnston takes the interests of his constituents earnestly to heart,Jand works day and night to obtain justice for them without regard to party. Neither does he yield to obstacles which "naturally grow out of the age of case j and the consequent obscurity of the evidence This is illustrated by the following example : Among the pension bills passed last night 'was 'one by Mr. Johnston, pensioning Mrs. Mary Ann Shook, a member or Captain Daniel Hoke s company in the war of 1812. Htr claim was rejected by the. Pension Bureau because there was no record of his service, but this record was supplied by a certificate by Col. Fred A. Olds, elerk iu charge of the records in tue Adjutant uenerai s office, Raleigh. v"here are the Policemen? W commend the following to the authorities. We arer under the im pression that the streets of Asheville are remarkably quiet, as a rule, at night, with exceptional .cases of noise, generally of a jubilant char acter. If these go to the extent of nuisance, it ia the duty of the police to check them. Equal rights to all ; to one, enjoyment of themselves within lawfnl bounds; to the other rest and quiet at the homes where rest and quiet are their unquestioned right. A Visitor says : Mb. Editor : Why is it in a city of Asheville a pretentions that there are no policemen on duty at sight? I aa an invalid in search of health and rest, and find every comfort at the Swannannoa hotel but the street noise would be a disgrace almost to Bexter street.
