The bulletins ceased to come last night before the doubts that hung over New York and Indiana were cleared up. The very delay in the transmission of that result, strength ens the hope, almost the beliet that Few York and Indiana will prove to be in the democratic column. It has always been the fate of our party to receive its woist news first. It happened at the last presidential election. The first telegrams are cooked to suit certain purposes, and others delayed for certain other purpose-1. The repub licans make tbe most comprehen sive claims in their usual spirit of boastlulnes?. If New York has really voted for Harrison we would have known it authentically by this time. So with Indiana, Tuesday night, the republicans boldly claimed a majority in both these States. Last night they ad mitted a doubt in Indiana, and the bulletins made a concession that a count ceuld only determine the position in New .York. In doubt there is hope, almost more than hope; it amounts almost to certainty that both these States baye voted for Cleveland. Iatereatlnr f All. This Congressional District. The indications are that Hon. Thomas D. Johnston is defeated by a very small majority, though. the definite result cannot at this writing, be stated. According to rumors and seemingly well au thenticated reports, the respec tive majorities are as follows: Mr. .Ewart: Mitcbell 600, Madi son 600, Henderson 395, Cherokee 50, Polk 100. Total 1745. For Mr. Johnston, Jackson 325, Swain 125, Macon 75, Haywood 318, Bun combe 350, Yancey 100, Clay 100, Graham 150, McDowell 137, Total 1680. Butherford and Transyl vania yet to hear from. Humors yesterday stated Mr. Ewart had carried Transylvania by a small majority, while a dispatch from Shelby stated Butherford had gone democratic, without giving particulars. We hope official re turns may change this to a cer tainty for Mr. Johnston, bnt indi cations are discouraging. LATER. " VIRGINIA. 11.25 a. m Two thirds of the State of : Virginia heard from ftive democratic losses of 2,500.
