The democrats who are opposing the ratification of the peace treaty are endeavoring to con vince the advocates that it will be the part of wisdom to accept the amend ment providing against N interference with the government of the Philippines- Failing In this the treaty's op ponents are willing to compromise on the passage of a jotot resolution pledging that the United States is not to hold the Philippines as colonies. .
