Calvin and Luther Shrum, two live and progressive farmers of this town ship, have demonsitratcd that there is big money to be made in raising sweet potatoes. Dast year they raised 1,040 bushels on three acres of land. Of this crop they fed two hundred bushels of the smaller potatoes, and those bruised or cut in harvee ing, to their horses, cows and stock, scd say as stock food they find the potato better than corn. Of the rem under of ithe crop, 600 bushels were stored iin a specially com structed potato house for market in ths spcing, eund 200 bushels fr their use wore stored in cellars. Tht ihouse used for storage has double walls twelve inches apart on the sides and over head, filled in between with dry sawdust. The floor is raised ten linches and carefuUly packed down and covered with cement. In this house the potatoes keep perfectly sound ail winter. The Messrs. Shrum did not begin sell ing potatoes until the middle of Febru ary and are finding ready sale for them at 40 cents perbushel. They will make about $250 in money from their three acre potato fklld after supplying their families and saving two hundred bush els of corn. Lincolnton Journal. A FLOATING CITY.
