Clarke s taw office to settle the account when Qirpute arose about the correctness of the bill. Clarke cut Murfee's throat. Ho fell to the f.oor a corpse. His son, Howard, who arrived at thi juncture drew - a revolver and shot . Clarke through he heart, killing hlnv instant ly. "Walter Clarke, hearing the shot, ran to the scene of the duel to death. Howard Murfee and he both emptied their pistols. Both were found dead, itb three bullet wounds in their bod ies.
