Mrs. Don. Mitchell two lots on Depot
street to Mrs. M. C. Weaver for $1,000.

staying at Miss Harris', 101 College
street was called home yesterday by
a telegram announcing the illness- ot hsr
husband, Dr. S. L. Montgomery, of
Concord, N. C.
The Asheville Light Infantry drilled
last night, and after the drill decided to
participate in the sham battle at Look
out park on the afternoon of July 4th
with the Blue Ride Rifles, provided the
business houses will close, and an effort
will be made to get all houses to close
for the day.
Mr. S. E. Ward, who is in the city,
reports that be has just completed the
construction of a portable saw mill on
Beaver Dam creek in Haywood county
for the firm of Cummings & Murray.
Mr. Ward says that Haywood county,
although democratic, will give a ma
jority against the adoption of the pro
posed amendment.
Blue Ridge Lodge No. 205 I. O. O. P.
held its semi-annual election of officers
last evening, which resulted as fol
lows: W. P. Powell, noble grand; Eu
gene C Sawyer, vice grand; Chas. J.
Rice, recording secretary; L. R. Pull-
iam, financial secretary, and Leroy
Ball, treasurer. Mr. Powell, noble
grand elect, invited the lodge to the
Candy Kitchen, where they partook of
light refreshments, all the newly elect
ed officers responding to toasts.
The Brotherhood of Painters and Dec
orators Local Union No. 132 elected
officers last night. W. B. Reigh was
elected president; Claude Justice, vice
president; R. Vest, conductor; Henry
Rol'lins, warden, and R. L. Mull, trus
tee. The remainder of the officers hold
over until the end of the year. These
are W. A. Peterson, recording secre
tary; J. E. Tenant, financial secretary;
Marion Hall, treasurer, and D. H. Pen-
land and G. H. Justice, trustees.

all its glory at the opera house Monday
evening and gave our people the benefit
of one of the most pleasing and high
ly enjoyable concerts ever witnessed

be in evidence, we are sure. Every one
present Monday evening was delighted
