The Morganton correspondent of the
Charlotte Observer says: Rev. B.
Soulier, pastor of the Waldesian
church at Valdese, has resigned his
pastorate and returned to hi old home
at San Germane Chlsone, in Italy.
Mr. Soulier was universally popular
and had become strongly attached to
his new home, but was forced to re
sign on account of the health of his
wife. Rev. Andrew Garron, a son of
the Burke county colonists, who Is now
at one of the German universities, will
succeed Mr. Soulier as pastor.
A big rattlesnake, something unusual
in the snake family in Rowan, was kill
ed on Mr. L. W. Dingle's farm, below
Salisbury, .Sunday morning. The
sn ke was discovered by Mr. Lingle's
Children Saturday evening late and
yesterday a hunt was made for it. It
was found coiled up near the spot
where it had been seen the evening be
fore and was shot by Mr. M. Luther
Lingle. The snake was four feet long
and had thirteen rattles and a button,
making it fourteen years old. It was
exhibited here and attracted a large

The mills here have resumed night
work, but it is feared the present wa
ter supply will not stand the strain.
We are continually reminded of what
a blessing the artesian well has been
to our people this summer during the
water faming that has struck our
place. There -are only a few families
in town that have not depended on the
artesian well to some extent. People
are inconvenienced greatly in getting
the water as it is, but it has undoubt
edly prevented a lot of sickness and
