KENILWORTH INN
Kenilworth Inn is receiving its share
of the crowds that are coming to Ashe
ville. There were 26 arrivals yester
day afternoon and three more trains to
hear from before the day ended. The
management is doing everything in its
power to entertain and make the guests
comfortable.
A tea is given each afternoon by the
guests
The golf course is rarely va
cant. Ping-pong is receiving a good
share of attention.
The livery stable run in connection
with the hotel is hard pushed to fill
orders, oinice the demand for horses and
buggies is very heavy. It is thought
that this will be the most proelperous
season in the history of Kenilworth
Inn and if the present standard holds
uip there will toe no Question as to a
record breaking year. .

. JEFFERSON DAVIS
PROTESTS AGAINST MM
DOES NOT REGARD IT AS APPRO
PRIATE FOR A MEMORIAL
TO HER HUSBAND.
Nerw Orleans, arch 26. Mrs. Jefferson
Davis in a letter today protests against
the decision of the Daughters of the
Confederacy to use the money sub-
ocribed for a monument to her husband
in the creation of a Jefferson Davis
memorial arch instead of a monument
m Richmond. She says:
o perpetrate the deeds of men. and
generally has expressed the fact of
some signal victory achieved by them,
but a 'triumphal arch to the memory
of a man whose cause failed, because
our troops were outnumbered, is inap
propriate as an expression of respect
for his memory and certainly would
excite ridicule in many quarters.
She also objects to the eite selected
for the erection of the memorial, the in
tersection of two noisy streets, and
says its choice is most InapiDroDriate.
She is supported in her oposition by
many other women and the chances are
that the 'Davis memorial arch will be
aJDandoned.
