Marriage license was issued yesterday to H. R. Good well of Memphis, and Mary R. BoAvden of South Carolina,. Willilam Deriison. the 12 year old son of Mrs. W. C. Denison on Woodfin street, came near having the sight of his right eye destroyed early Monday evening. William was standing near where a sewer was toeing cleaned at the time of the 'accident. A wire, which was used in the cleaning, was being, severed by the workmen when one end sprung up, striking William in the eye and passing through both the pupil and rirs. Dr. Reynolds arid Dr. Briggs gave medical attention. The doctors are yet uriable to tell whether the eye will be lost or hot. The $20,000 mark was reached Monday evening in subscriptions for the new Y. M. C. A. building. G. R. Collins and W. M. Jonesi, directors, are canvassing for funds this week and report that they have been very successful the two days they have been working. O. B. Van Horn and J. A. Nichols received $530 in subscriptions last week. Anderson and Osie Helton, brothers, engaged in a rather fast and exciting fist fight yesterday afternoon near the postoffice. Special Policeman Heath arrested the young men after the com bat had 'lasted several minutes. On arriving at the city hall Officer Heath foound it necessary to call assistance to keep the brothers from coming to gether and giving vent to their fueling which were anything but calm. Each gave bail to the amount of $5 for their appearance in police court this morn ing. The Asheville football team will play the Asheviille School team this after noon on the school grounds at 3:30 o'-clock. The Losando and Tubini claims were partly the cause of the dispatch of a French squadron to the island of Mdtylene just a year ago.
