Blue Mont is destined to become the summer playground of the Bap tists of the southern states. Blue Mont is essentially a religious com munity, under control of the Southern Baptist assembly; it is a place for Paptists. Although the development of the property, has been the matter of only a little over a year, considerable has l.een done to transform the mountain side and valleys Into habitable places. Some 45 cottages have already been constructed. The growth has been wonderful. There is a handsome ad ministration building near the station, and Chestnut Heights hotel, construct ed this season, conducted in a splen did manner by C. C. Ellzey. The de velopments are just beginning. Sev eral contracts for cottages have been let within the past few days and by next summer It is expected that there will he accommodations for more than 500 people. There are now be tween 300 and 400 people at Blue Mont for the summer. Is Favorably Situated. The property lies well for develop-! incut. .Much of the present holdings of the assembly was purchased from Mrs. Lyda Cheeseman, one of the old est residents of western North Caro lina. Her home was located near the mouth of the Swannanoa tunnel and her homestead will be preserved by the- assembly as a landmark. The whole grounds have been laid out by C. D. Beadle of the Hiltmore estate and the development Is proceeding along the lines laid down by him. The land lies on both sides of the railway track and is watered by an ambundance of bold mountain springs 23 In number. Not a water course nor a spring can anyone purchase at niue Mont. These arc reserved by the company for the use of all. Along each watercourse a strip of land is reserved as a park. The elevation is from 2500 to 3225 feet. "Lover's Lane" is a network of rho dodendron with a cool spring In its midst, which forms a most attractive place for picnics. The whole grounds are ideal. A System of Reservoirs. At the head of each of i ie streams It is planned to erect reservoirs and from them the lots along each stream can be supplied with water. An effi cient yet inexpensive system can be inaugurated. Near the mouth of the Swannanoa tunnel and just a little above the present depot is the site for a lake which will probably le con structed within a short while. The basin will cover three or four acres. The plan of development calls for the erection of at least one and per haps two hotels. The more expensive hotel will be erected at a magnificent site in the Swannanoa gap. This Is one of the linest building sites in the whole grounds and a magnillcent view may be obtained. This hotel will probably be started within the next 12 months. The other hotel will probably be located near the station. The railway company has promised to erect an JX000 station within a short while. The Tabernacle. The tabernacle or auditorium which was begun last year was completed this summer and the formal dedica tion took place Sunday. The build ing is rounded in shape with high pitched roof, and possesses admirable acoustic properties. It has a seating capacity of I about 1100 people. Th seats are comfortable. Here it Is that all of the meetings are held. Prom inent lecturers address gatherings, various study classes hold their ses sions, Sunday school is held, or a con gregation gathers for preaching. It Is centrally located. In the tract more than 800 lots have been Md off. these lots contain ing each about hnlf an acre and be ing 110 feet front by 220 deep. This give a convenient slsed . Inc. Two of the handsomest cot tages on the grounds were completed this season. These are owned and oc cupied by F. H. McMillan and W. C. Jackson, two prominent men of De Land Itev. Hlght C. There are 400 acres of land reserv ed as parks while seven miles of streets are provided for. Three miles have already been graded. Mr. Hadle has got a Una grade to all points. The policy of the manage metn Is to grade roads to the various sections just as soon as the lot owner begins to build. Athletic grounds add a great feature to the assembly. Ten nis courts, baseball diamonds, and track grounds supply places of exer cise for those who desire.' The ath letic sports this season were quite a feature. At the stockholders meeting Thursday-laws and ordinances will be adopted to govern the village of Blue Mont. The directors meet Wednes day. The management has been un tiring In its efforts to develop the property and to them much credit Is due. The president is James H. Swope of Nor folk, followed by a solo, "My Home Land," by Miss Austin. The dedica tory sermon was preached by Dr. J. M. Frost of Nashville, one of the lead ers in Baptist Sunday school work. Taking as his subject "Personal Belief in the Resurrection of Jesus," Dr. Frost preached an effective sermon. He illustrated his address by a num ber of concrete Incidents which had led him to a belief In Christ's resur rection. The empty tomb of Christ, he declared, had made possible the building which was being dedicated. Following Ihe address there was a song by the choir and a prayer by Rev. T. P. Bell, D. D After another song. Rev. Mr. Freeman of Black Mountain pronounced the benediction.
