Observer Weaher Bureau, Normal today: Temperature 68 de grees. Precipitation .10. i - . ' t A - -T. C: - ,'n Surveys and Estimates to be Made of Important Roads Indicative of the popularity of Weaverville; the Asheville and East Tennessee railroad, connecting Ashe- villo and Weaverville, and the great throngs of people from the south who spent the month of August In Ashe ville and the surrounding country, it is said that the A. & E. T. R. R. did the greatest volume of business dur ing the month of August since the completion of the road. The A. & E. T. Is an Interurban road equipped with modern, double-truck cars hat ride like Pullmans, and with a splen did service between Asheville and Weaverville the line has handled thousands cf poopio t'a!a summer. 'Fortsome time after the line was1 completed there was little travel from Weaverville to Asheville on the cars of the company by people living in the Reema Creek, Flat Creek and Ivy. sections. Now the travel from those sections is immense. The farmers of Reems Creek, Ivy, Flat Creek and even French Broad townships drive to Weaverville, hitch their stock and come to Asheville over the line of the A. & E. T. The Interurban- line be tween Asheville and Weaverville has literally made Weaverville as a sum mer resort town. The greatest crowds in the history of the town were there this summer, and preparations are al ready on foot for still greater crowds next year. Incidentally plans are be ing formulated for the laying out of one if not several small towns be tween Asheville and Weaverville, and it is believed that within a few years Asheville and Weaverville, separated by a 'distance of eight miles, will in fact be connected not only by an In terurban line but a great boulevard bo Tiered with handsome homes with one town after another connecting. It la said that the Asheville & East Tennessee railroad did approximately 50 per cent, more business In August 1811, than during August, 1(10, which was the banner month for the Inter urban. According to J. E. Rector, who was in Marshall yesterday, the people of Madison county are very enthusiastic In the matter of good roads. In three portions of the county surveys have been ordered for roads and Benjamin H. Case of this city has been appoint ed as county engineer to make these surveys and estimates of cost of con struction. At the meeting of the county com missioners yesterday, at the request of certain prominent citizens of the county, the commissioners ordered tlus survey Is made and the estimate that a road be surveyed from Barnard through Hot Springs township, to the Tennessee line. Thie route forms part of the central highway. After the survey Is made and the estimate are received an election will be called In this township to vote on a bond Is sue to build It. The road Is about 16 miles In length. They also ordered that a survey be mad of a road, about 17 miles In length, from the Haywood county line through Spring creek and Roaring rock townships to Hot Springs. An election Is also to be called In these townships to vote on bonds. As part of the roads are already constructed It la thought that the amount needed will not exceed 610,000 and It Is like ly that the Issue will not exceed that amount As there Is now a tax for roads amounting to about $1600 annually, an additional levy to pay the Interest on the bonds will not be needed. ' Mr. Case leaves for Mars Hill to morrow morning to make surveys In that township, where an election has been called to vote on a bond Issue for road Improvement September 16. When this work la finished b will make the survey In the other parts of the county. Mr. Uctur says that taking Into account the apparent enthusiasm, he thinks the issue of bonds will sure ly carry In the three sections of the county.
