JXXLivf J THE POSTMASTERS I CONVENTION ENDS ; Major Rollins Elected Presi dent Wilmington Chosen for Next Meeting. The North Carolina Postmasters as sociation adjourned last night to meet next year In annual convention at Wilmington. There was a considera ble amount of routine business dis posed of. after which the election of officers was held. $laj. W. W. Rollins of Asheville was elected president. The committee on resolutions in submitting its report thanked the people of Ashevtlle. the board ot trade, Maj. KolMns, Assistant Post master J. I.. Wagner, the reception committee. J. M. Alexander of the Battery Park hotel, the Asheville club, the Ashevtlle Electric company, the Asheville press anJ tbe people of Hendersonville for the entertainment that had been provided. Resolutions Adopted. The committee submitted resolu tions which commended Postmaster General Hitchcock and the depart ment in wiping out tiie postal deficit and in making the department self- sustaining: also commended the selec tion of Mr. liritt for the position of third assistant postmaster general. It recommended that the old age pen sions be provided for the superannuat ed postoftiee employes and those who meet with accidents in the discharge of their duiles. They endorsed the abolition of Sun day labor, recommending that it be carried as far as local conditions will permit. The postal savings system was also endorsed and regret was expressed that a bill is being prepared provid ing for the discontinuance of the sale of stamped envelopes in large lots at no profit, as they are a gre3t conven ience to the postmasters and the pub lic. It was suggested that the rule? governing the lottery' system be pub lished in supplement. The bonded substitute system was deplored. The good roads movement was endorsed. In conclusion the department war thanked for sending Messrs. Brltt Fisher, Sctzer and iiulia to speak at t'.ie convention. All these resolutions wore adopted by the association. OtHcrr Klea-ted. Wagner of Ashtville were elected as honorary members of the association and this was followed by the selection of Wil mington as the next place of meeting which was done unanimously. The following officers were elected: Ma). W. W. Rollins of Asheville. president: J. B. Ppence of Charlotte, first vlct president: Thomas U. Green of Way nesville. second vice president; I). F Conrad of Lexington, third vice presi dent; S. A. White of Mebane, secre tary-treasurer. Just before the meeting adjourned Maj. Rollins whs called on for speech and he responded with a few pleasing words, declaring It to be hlf ntcntion to make the meeting at Wil mington the best of all and ended b praising the work of Retiring Presi dent Joyce. At Hendersonville. Arriving t Hendersonville yester day morning on the "Carolina Special' he postmasters were met by th. re ception committee, a number of th town's prominent citizens and the brass band. They marched to the auditorium where addresses of wel come were delivered by Mayor Staton by W. A. Smith of the Merchants as sociation and O. V. F. Blythe. These d dresses were responed to by K. I) Douglass of Greensboro. After lunch at the Kentucky Home the party wen! to Ijiurei park, where three hours were spent in recreation. In the afternoon a business session was held, at which Maj. W. W. Ko! line delivered an address on the "Ru ral Delivery Service." and V. B. Ben bow of Franklin spoke on "The Duties of the Postmaster to the Public and the Public to the PostmaHter."
