The McDowell county fulr Is to be held the week following the fair here. Mr. Giles told Mr. (Judder that he thought from present prospects the Western North Carolina fair would be better even than the state fair. A number of excellent exhibits are ex pected from McDowell county. Mrs. Fmnk K. Israel has been asked In take charge of the pantry supply department and has consented to act in this capacity. She has had much experience in this work and has also isited many fairs and knows how they should be conducted. Vs" This morning's session of the Pho tographers (-'invention was opened at la o'clock and the regular program was carried out. A short business session was first held; then the ques tion box was opened and u round table discussion followed, which in cluded many questions of vital Inter est to both the photographers and'the association. Several new business matters were also brought up and dis posed of. Talks followed, for the good of the association, by a number of the most prominent members. The ses sion adjourned nt 1:30 o'clock until tonight at X. This afternoon the visiting delegates and commercial representatives will be tendered a drive over the Hiltmore estate, and tonight the last Important session will be held, when reports will be heard from the various commit tees, new officers will be elected and the next place of meeting chosen. The convention will close tomorrow morning. I.ast night's session was featured by two addresses, the tlrst made by I.. F. Hammer, Jr., of the Hammer Dry Plate company, and the other by M. W. Tyree of Washington, secretary' of the national association. Both ad dresses were of high order and were greatly enjoyed by the photographer. Mr. Tyree spoke on "System" and he Insisted on the importance of pro tographers conducting their business ulong modern and systematic lines and he made a number of valuable suggestions, especially In regard to the keeping of accounts and the fol lowing up of bills. He discussed the business as well as the artistic and mechanical phase of calling, and In all, the talk was one of the most in teresting and profitable yet heard. Williams was called to Weaverville a few hours ago by a tel ephone message which stated that his sun, Victor, who has been ill several months, had become worte. He went immediately, leaving Deputy Sheriff Mitchell In charge of Superior court. M. L. Khlpmun, commissioner of labor and printing, pussed through the city yesterday on his way to Raleigh l'lom Nebraska, where he went to at tend the meeting of the International l.ubor association of the I'nited States and Canada. Mr. Shipman took part in the program of the meeting. The directors of the board of trade met yesterday afternoon to transact continued businei. The matter of equitable taxation and the manner of accomplishing it were discussed, and the committee appointed in this con nection was again continued. There was other business of u routine n ture. The committee from the Y. M. C. A., appointed to carry on the mem bership campaign, in which it Is de termined to Increase the membership of the associntlon to 750, succeeded in netting 50 new anil renewed members yesterday, which was the number set for the first day. The 35 members of the committee are working energet ically and feel sure of success. The captains of the classes 1! and C basketball teams of the V. M. C. A., meet at 3 o'clock this afternoon and the captains of the class A teams will meet at 7:30 o'clock in the T. M. C. A. auditorium for the purpose of choosing their players for the Bea ton. Dr. Charles W. Hyrd preach ed at the morning service of the se ries of meetings than are being held nt the Centrnl Methodist church, In which both the members of the Cen tral and Haywood street Methodist churches are taking pnrt. It is the earnest desire of the pastors. Dr. Ryrd and Rev. W. A. Newell, that the peo ple who do not belong to any churih will attend the services. Frank Ixughrnn and his two sons, 'leorge and Richard, and John Car roll, who have spent the past two weeks in the east, returned yesterday afternoon to Ashevllle, having made the trip, both going and returning, in Mr. Ioughran's automobile. They re port a most enjoyable tour. Stopping at a number of cities on the way, t ley made the trip to New York in Ave days, covering 211 miles the first day, 172 on the second, 11.1 on the third, 208 on the fourth and 194 on the fifth. About 150 gallons of gas oline were consumed on the journey and side trips. Fred Fowler, a young white man who was arrested here Tuesday upon request of the Spartanburg authori ties, was given his liberty today. H was brought before Judge Adams and questioned as to what the charges were against him. He said the war rant had been aworn out for the col lection of an open account, that he had told his creditor he could not pay him at present, before he left Spar tanburg, and that he had come here, primarily, to try and collect money to pay the bill. He was of good appear ance and said he was an Insurance agent He also stated that he had never before been In any kind of trou ble.
