LINEMAN BADLY HURT ON A HUNTING TRIP Elks of Greensboro Will Give Most Elaborate Social Func tion, House Warming, This Evening. Gazette-News Bureau, Dally News Building, Greensboro, Oct. 26. The Elks of Greensboro have made elaborate preparations for a "house warming" tomorrow night Details of the event tend to show that the origi nal desire to make this the most elab orate affair of the kind that Greens boro has ever known will be realized. Formal Invitations to friends of the members have been 'mailed out and it m expected that the attendance will be large. In the receiving line will be Judge and Mrs. James E. Boyd, Mr, and Mrs. E. J. Justice, Judge and Mrs. R. M. Douglas and others; Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Kaufman and Miss Milllcent Fisher will have charge of the punch bowl. Receiving in the ballroom will be Mrs and Mrs. Caesar Cone, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Bradshaw, Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Cone and others. Mrs. L. G. Whlttington. one of the oldest residents of Greensboro, died Tuesday night at her home on Ashe-. boro street after an llmess of less than three days. Mrs. Whlttington, who was 84 years of age, suffered a stroke of paralysis Sunday evening and from thlat moment until her death no hope was entertained for ' her recovery. Surviving are two daughters and one son Including Mrs. M. O-. Wooten and J. A. Whlttington of Greensboro and Mrs. Moore of Chicago. ' Lineman Hurt While Opossum Hunt ing. B. Irwin Bra mo, e lineman in the employ of the North Carolina Public Service corporation of Greensboro, is at his home here In a critical condi tion as a result of a fall from a tree this week while 'possum hunting. It seems that Biame With, two other friends went for 'poseams; that a poswum was treed aind 'Frame with lantern in hand climbed "the tree after the game. Some distancfe up his lan tern went out and in attempting to re light it, while sitting on a limb, the limb gave way and he was htirled quite a distance Into a stream beneath and landed on rocks. He suffered a severe wound In the head; two ribs were broken and his arm fractured, lie was taken to his home In an un conscious condition. May Represent Farmers. Before leaving tor Raleigh Tuesday afternoon to arwue cases before the Supreme court, E. J. Justice admitted, In replying to a question of a news paper man, that it was very probable that he, with S. A. Woodard of Wil son, would accept a request of Presi dent Alexander, of the State Farmers' union to make a presentation of the farmers' side of the case before the United States court at N"ew Tork, in the matter of the dissolution of the American tobacco trust It Is also stated that the union at Its meetlng.ln Raleigh last week adopted a resolution empowering President Alexander to secure the services of thee two bril liant lawyers in behalf of the tobacco growers of the state. When asked what connection his reported employment with Mr. Wood ard had with the celebrated trust case, Mr. Justice replied that he did not know the employment had been made a public matter. He aald, how ever, that President Alexander had written him to know if such an en gagemen' would be possible or expe dient and that he was carefully con sidering the question before giving an answer at a conference to be held in Raleigh between a committee of the farmers' union, Mr. Woodard and him self. "I am sure," he added, "that this employment means no criticism or reflection upon those who are interest ing themselves, officially, along these line" . Asked what privately employed counsel eould do which the state offi cials had not done, he replied Instant ly: "I have not decided yet just What, If anything, we could do In that rose at this stage. I am convinced that the only effective remedy for the abuses declnred by this, our highest Judicial authority to be not only flagrant, but long time criminally flagrant, Is a term in the penitentiary. And until these men who have been judlctailty shown to be responsible for the present bad conditions, and who have been ad judged to be violators of the law, are convinced that there is danger of this remedy being applied by the eourt, there is not much likelihood of their proposing a plan for the dlsso lutlon of their 'criminal trust'. If the Initiative Is left to the criminal by Artorney-Oeneral Wtckrslam." ' "Would Call Me Firebrand if I Talked Mr. Justice was unable to esate whether the farmers would dealre to supplement the brief of the attorneys. general of North and South Carolina and Virginia to the court on this ques tion, with another coming more par ticularly from their standpoint as pro. ilucers of the raw material. It Is un derstood that these matters are to be determined at the conference of the committee and counsel In Haligh( Asked for more particulars of the propowUe and objects Mr. Justice oruiok his head In refiwal. He ex plained this refusal In the following nirlklnxly original sentence: "I cout.i grunt your request and sav more, but you see If I Wild all I eundt to sny on this subject, I would b culled a 'Are brand,' and so what you cjII 'hot stuff' would bn hrJded tt the w irld br the ;n!.-f..-1 etiemles of t I DO PI'MS REI.1ED The New Calcium Sulphide Treatment Does Wonders to Every Kind of Skin Eruption. Whether this exceptionally low price can be maintained with the cur rent world demand I Tery doubtful. In the year ending last August the civilised world absorbed 17,319,070 bales of cotton. This consumption In round number of 13,000,009 bales came In a poor year for cotton manu facture. The United States used 250,000 bales less than In a full year and It cotton plant for spinning was on three-quar tor time. This English cotton Industry boomed, but Germany and Jejpaa ran behind.
