Preparations for Heavy Traffic Next Summer, ' Overhauling Cars, etc. The management of the Asheville & past Tennessee railroad Is already making preparations for the travel on that road during the summer months, which it Is confidently expected will be heavy. The barns of the com pany, situated at New Bridge station, have been the scene of a great deal of activity during the past several weeks, as the work of putting the tars in good shape has been going on there. A great deal of work has also been done on the trolleys and overhead work of the road. Car No. 4, the lirst big interurban car bought by the company shortly after the service to Weavervllle was Inaugurated, has been thoroughly overhauled, and repainted. It is practically a new car and when it I comes out with its new dress within the next few days. It will have that appearance. This is one of the most comfortable curs In this part of the country. It was stated this morning at the offices of the company that there Is livelihood of Inaugurating the sum mer schedule next season as much as two months earlier than it vn put on this year. It was started the past season about July 1. and the second Interurban ear made its tirst trip July 15. From that time, on the line was most popular with tourists und with local people, and consider ing the amount of travel before the summer schedule was started, it is thought that it can be started next season by May 1, at least. FUN BEITS' Hi IT Taken to Where Mission Hospital, Amputation Was Found Necessary. R. W. Betts. a young man employed as flagman on the Southern railway, lost his arm In an accident, this morn ing just before 10 o'clock, at the Bllt more station, while local freight train No. 62, which runs between Asheville and Si rtanburg. was switching. His arm .vas crushed and he was Imme diately taken to the Mission hospital, where he was operated on by Dr. V. D. Hilliard. It was found necessary to amputate the arm between the elbow and shoulder. At noon it waa stated from the hospital that his condition was as good as could be expected, but he was not then from under the in fluence of ether. At the dispatcher office it was not known just bow the injury was re- eived, it being stated that the acci dent occurred while the train was switching at Biltmore, Just before leaving for Spartanburg. M. Uuffln, 19 Center street, huve produced an abundant second crop of raspberries, some of which were sent to The Gazette-News ofllce today. A stone, which he declares wa. thrown at liiin by some negroes last night, while he was standing at the corner of Patton nvenue and Grove street, struck H. II. Miller Just over the right eye, inflicting an ugly wound. It is not known who throw the stone. Rights-of-way easements are being tiled In the ofllce of the register of deeds by the North Carolina Electrical Power company, which Is building an other power line from Marshall to Asheville. The new line passes through the Sandy Mush section to the Weaver plant on the French Broad river. The older line comes by way of the Ivy dam. The Asheville Paint and Glass com pany has Just received two car loads of paint to stock a new store on Depot street which has Just been opened, and which will for the most part bo devoted to fhe wholesale trade. The company conducts a wholesale and retail store on South Main street, and on account of the Increase In the wholesale business decided to open another house. A notice was filed in the clerk of the court's office today to the effect that the deposition of MaJ. D. John son, to be used as evidence in the case of Richard P. Moore vs. MaJ. I. Johnson, will be taken before W. H. Daniel in the office of Moore & Rol lins, beginning November 4, and con t'nulng until completed. The notice was filed by Thomas S. Rollins and IS. Ft. Reynolds, attorneys for the de fendant. The brick work of the new police court room will be completed this af ternoon and the building Is beginning to show signs of rapid work. The contract calls for Its completion by November 15 and the work will have to become still more rapid to get It dene. The board of aldermen huve got behind the contractors now, though, and It Is probable that the court room will be turned over to the city complete on that date. A part of the Hallowe'en festivities last night resulted today In the arrest of five white boys, Bascom James, Wiley Owens, Vernon and Fred Stew art and Jesse Sprouse, upon the charge of maliciously destroying per sonal property during the night at the corner of Southslde avenue and Mc Dowell street. The boys. It Is said, tore up a wagon there but it could not be ascertained whose property It was. They will have to unswer to the harge In itolice court tomorrow. "He was enthusiastic over the pos nihilities of the Toxaway properties, of which hi la now sole owner. The litigation which he had with J. B. Duke for the possession of these properties has now been completely settled, he said.
