MOVEMENT FDH A PARK AT Petition Presented to Commis sioners Yesterday, but No Action Was Taken. A movement is on foot to make such arrangements with the board of county commissioners thai a part of the grounds of the children's home, in Oruce, may b turned over to the city to be converted into a park for the use of all of l In children of the city, and grownups too, for that mat ter. A petition was presented to the commissioners yesterday afternoon, (..''king that negotiations be started at once with the city authorities to carry out the above plans, but the board did not take any acton yester day. However, the petition was tiled. According to the plans of those who are tryng to promote this arrange ment, eight acres can be taken from the 10 acres composing the property of the home lor the use of the park, while the inmates of the home will be allowed the use of the eight acres ami the exclusive use of two acres. The park would be under the man agement of those in charge of the children's home. A waiting shed would be constructed on the property on the line of the Asheville Klectric company. It Is also thought that as the city grows in that direction the county authorities might consent to sell part of the property to the city. Such use of this valuable property, as is proposed, it seems would be an ideal arrangement, and it is not thought there will be much opposi tion to it There are only about 20 children In the home and they would not be deprived of the use of any of the grounds by this arrangement. There have been numerous expres sions recently to the effect that the county Is not getting as much out of this property as it might, as there are so few children in the home, alpl the conversion of part of It Into a Park will no doubt meet the approval of the majority of the taxpayers. An order was made yesterday that the commissioners with the directors of the Children's home shall confer with the city authorities in reference to the petition.
