NIGHT PUBLICITY Night publicity Is the utilisation of the Idea that trade follows the light; and "the better the light, the more business." It depends for its success upon the natural law that causes things and people to turn toward the Usht It depends also upon the production of incandescent lamps, without which could be had very little effective out door illumination. With a few incandescent lamps and a little current we can now cause the rront of a store to blossom with light oniiiant, attractive and comDellinsr. We can force attention by utilising snarp contrast between light and aarxness; a thing possible only at nignt. We can take a dark street, provided It Is fairly accessible, and make It a popular and populous night thoroughfare; and it Is neither diffl cult not very expensive. We need only string it with electric signs, outline some of the store windows with In candescent lamps, equip a few of the signs with flashes In short, light It up. People will then come there bj the thousands, where formerly thej nunnea me street Because t was dark. How many people would go to an amusement park unless It were well nay, lavishly lighted? No one but thieves and cut-throats, who love the ark. Light Is cheerful and wlnnlnr. is natural to go down a lighted street In preference to a dark one, to go into a bright store Instead of a Im one, and to buy goods that are shown to the best advantage, under the best light Effective night publicity may be of many forms. There may be an elec tric sign of the transparency class, costing a dollar a week; or there may lie a regular lamp sign of any desired size; having any number of lamps, and costing accordingly; or there may be a changeable letter sign,, so ar ranged across the store front as to burn "its messages" any message de sired Into the minds of all who see It. The latter sign Is changed once a week, and can be used to advertise special isles, unusual bargains, and offerings of that nature. Then there Is outline; the placing of rows of In candescent lights around the win dows, along the top and corners of the building, or around the edge of a sign. Laxt, but not least, there la the huge hill-hoard with Its painting or! lithographed poster, so arranged thai hood along the upper edge reflects the light from a row of Incandescent!, throwing It directly on the design or type, and so making It stand out bold ly, in the surrounding darkness, the objective of thousands, of pairs of eyes that never notice It by day. loes It all pay? As well ask: Does It pay to adver tise at all? Of course It pays. Compared In equal terms with other advertising It has much to recommend It. It gives very large display, in a conspicuous position, Is seen by many thousands of people, and Its cost Is low. You rent a bill board, or put up a sign on your store front and outline It with Incandescent lights. The space Is anywhere from five square feet up ward; the number of people seelnx It Includes pretty much everybody on the street from dawn till midnight; and the cost may range from fifty cents to five dollars per day. You might pay less, or more, according to the slxe of the sign, the number of lights, the hours of burning, and the location. Looking at It from the standpoint of cool reasoning, night publicity Is good business proposition. Ex change. 142-81 BALK OF REAL ESTATE FOR TAXES. The whole show is rich in comedy of the rarest kind and is not of the variety that Is motheaten with age. It is decidedly refreshing ana with the very select musical numbers it furnished one of the best entertain ment productions yet seen at the Au ditorium. There were quite a number present who had gone primarily to see Mr. Carle and Miss Hopper and to satisfy themselves .that these two stars are still making good on the comedy stage. They found them very much at home lost night and, although the part of the former is not as replete with good humor as some that he has filled In former plays, he nevertheless made it vastly worth while and there was no one who could criticise the part True -his voice would, indicate that he has a slight cold but it Is gen erally understood now that this same voice has become one of his most val uable assets. Miss Hopper is just as pretty, attractive and winsome as ever and it is hard to conceive of any kind of a production that she could not put sufficient life Into to make It en joyable. These stars are not alone, however, In capturing popular favor for Charles Edward White In the secondary com. udy parts was a favorite from the time of his first appearance, and though he carries considerable avoir dupols he also carries the traditional good humor of a fat man and he is a rare comedian. made quite a hit with her dancing.
