In the representation of the latter characteristics there are two North Carolina pictures, one of the sand dunes in the eastern part of the state and another of Mount Mitchell and the surrounding peaks taken by an Asheville photographer. The picture is a very familiar one here, of course, and it is a matter of pride that there is near Asheville a peak that Is the highest east of the Rockies, and one that attracts the attention of all art ists who are looking for the real beau ty of the country. FUNERAL HELD TODAY Body of Mr. Alice It. Wlggin Taken to Her Former Hume, Bangor, Me., for Interment. The funeral of Mrs. Alice B. Wig gin, whose death occurred yesterday afternoon, was held at 11 a. m. today, at the residence, 129 Cumberland ave nue, services being conducted by Rev. Charles W. Byrd, I. D., pastor of Central Methodist church Mrs. Wig gin's son, Harry W. Plummer, and Dr. Owen-Smith accompany the body, leaving on the afternoon train, to Mrs. Wiggln's former home, Bangor, Me., where she will be laid to rest. A quartet, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Stike leather, Mrs. J. M. Burns and Frank S. Smith, sang two hymns, "Nearer, My God, to Thee," and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." A large number of friends attended, Including many of the offlce men, motormen and conductors of the Asheville Light and Power company. , A great profu sion of flowers bore beautiful witness to the affection and sorrow of friends throughout the city. The pallbearers were Thomas 3, Brookshlre, Julius C. Martin, Garland A. Thomason, Dr. F. T. Meriwether, B. M. Jones and Earle Godbey. Mrs. Wlggin was a member of prominent and cultured Maine family, and was a gentlewoman of beautiful character. During a residence of about 12 years in Asheville she won he esteem of all who knew her. She w.' singularly unselfish, and tier Joys were In sympathy and ministry for others. She ardently loved everything beautiful. During her last Illness, after she knew she could not long survive, she would send tokens and write messages of good cheer, with her own feeble hand, to her friends. ises to be a good attendance. A social hour will fol low, it being the desire of the leaders that all become acquainted. William Harper was brought to the Meriwether hospital todny from Azalea, where he was employed at he plant of the Azalea Woodworking company and where he had a serious endent. It is said tha.t he was walk ing on a tramway, which fell, doing him serious Injury. He was hurried the hospital, where It was found that both bones In his left leg were broken in several places between the nkle and the knee. Dr. Meriwether gave him attention, and about noon iday stated that Mr. Harper was do ing very well. Louisville. Ky., May 8.
