C A. this morning received from the Tusculum college basket ball mana ger the line-up of the team that will come here December 10 and 11 for two games with the local association boys. This line-up Is as follows: Clemens, Johnston and Brown, for wards; L. Fox and Stokeley, centers; C. Fox, Wallln and Scott, guards. A short review was also given of the record which this team made last season. This would seem to Indicate that It Is an exceptlonaly strong one. Only two games were lost last year, and the Tusculum aggregation de feated the same team three times, winning a five game series. These games, too, were played with a Vir ginia college using lnter-collegiate rules and were played on the latter's court. One recommendation for the strength of the Tusculum players is that they defeated the Knoxvllle Ti gers on the latter's court. It Is ex pected, therefore, that he games here will be interesting. E. New York, Dec. 4. Trading in stocks was active at the opening to day and price changes were Irregular. Southern Pacific was in demand and rose 1 on the first few transactions. Union Pacific showed some heaviness at the outset, but quickly made up its loss. Changes elsewhere were small with a majority of declines. Mexi can petroleum and California petro leum developed exceptional strength with gains of a. point each. The market turned definitely up ward for a short time. American Can rose to 87, but broke violently to 34 on the preferred dividend an nouncement The preferred stock was restored to Its old seven per cent rate, but the payment Is only quarter of one per cent towards liquidating the accumulated dividends of 33 per cent and was disappointing. This stock slumped from 122 to 119. Opinion as to the probable status of Southern Pacific in the dissolution jot the Harriman system seemed to have changed overnight and a rather eager early demand lifted the stock two points. Elsewhere hesitation gradually gave way to an upward movement, which was checked when the markee encountered the flood of liquidation and short selling of American Can. Sharp losses were recorded. Bonds were easier. Liquidation was arrested and at midday the market became dull on a fractional rally. Money rates were much lower, but banks discriminated against certain collateral In loans, which accounted from the urgent foccnoon selling of various specialties. CHICAGO GRAIN MARKET. Cotton opened firm at an advance of 11 to 15 points on higher Llverpol cables, bullish southern spot news and reports of a continued active demand for cotton goods and reports that southern ship pers were finding it very difficult to fill their December commitments. Lo cal sentiment, however, seemed to be more or less unsettled. Trading was only moderately active. Realizing by recent buyers caused some irregular ity, but trade interests were buyers on moderate dips and prices held within three or four points of the best. Reports that final figures of the Na tlonal Glnners' association showed 11, 967,000 bales ginned to December 1 started a more general selling move ment Prices at midday were back to practically yesterday's close. Spot quiet; middling uplands 12.85 nominal. Reports thait the National Glnners" estimate the crop at 14,600,000 to 14, 800,000 bales, combined with a weak stock market, caused continued Wall street liquidation during the after noon while Memphis also was a seller and prices eased off to a net loss of from 9 to 13 points.
