The former was sen tenced to the county roads for a term of six months and appealed. His ap pearance bond -was fixed at $300. The Mclntyre woman was given two months in the county jail. She gave notice of appeal but this was later withdrawn. M. Payne was before the cojirt on two charges, being drunk in the. city and driving an automobile while in toxicated. On the latter charge lie was fined $40 and the costs, while a nol prosse was entered in the other. Osbey Railey was also before the court on two charges. Convicted of vagrancy, he was sentenced to iho county roads for 30 days; while a nol prosse was entered in the case charg ing him with throwing missiles In d public street. Henry Copening was given a head ing this morning on the charge of stealing a suit of clothes, valued nl $15, from K. L. Moss, and was found not guilty. The sentence of 30 days on the county roads, entered yesterday morn ing against Bui-gin Johnson for an assault on Arthur Oudger, was chang ed this morning to a tine of $20 and the costs. U C Wilson and J. M. Chiles were found guilty of exceeding the speed limit with automobiles und were lined $5 and the ousts each. l.illie Melton was lined $5 and the coats for being drunk. PLANS FOR NEW HOSPITAL The institute for county teachers which has been ..conducted '.at the Asheville High school for nearly two weeks, closed today There has been an attendance of about 250 and many of these, will take examinations for certificates. The regular examinations for county teachers will beheld July 10, 11, 12. Examinations for high school certificates will be held July 10 and 11. For those desiring to en ter the A. and M., examinations will be held at the high school July 10, at 10 a. m. Dr. L. B. McBrayer delivered an elo quent address yesterday before the Teachers association of Buncombe county. The subject of his remarks was "The Opportunities and Respon sibilities of the Teacher in the Com munity in Regard to Health and Hy giene." Dr. McBrayer in his usual forceful Rtvle held the concentrntpil . attention of his hearers and was greet ed with enthusiastic nppluuse. The plans are slowly and surely ma turing in connection with the recently launched enterprise for raising $100, 000 for a new hospital for Buncombe county. Chiiirmnn S. l.ipinsky is counseling with the officers and others interested in the formation of the sub-committees, which will have In charge the various phases of the pre liminary work during July. A num ber of these committees are partially rilled and are quietly getting under way with their part of the work, and it Is expected that an announcement of the complete campaign executive committee and its sub-committees will be made at the meeting next Monday evening, to be held in the court house at 8:30 o'clock. Through the courtesy of the Em anuel Business college the committee started its work in one of their rooms, and the headquarters on the second floor of the Mears building. 17 South Main street, were occupied and the office paraphernalia and telephone In stalled. A regular meeting of the Mission Hospital board of managers was held this morning at 10:30-a. m., at which time Chairman l.ipinsky and Cam paign Director llofrsommer were pres ent, and conferred with the ladies onrerning the 10 days campaign. The meeting was unusually intre- esting. Te details of the preparatory work for the coming campaign were carefully considered, and the women are taking hold aggressively In the formation of their canvassing or ganization. Much enthusiasm was manifest, and while the campaign directors suggeste dtheadvlahllity of having 15 teams of 10 ladles each, the probabilities are that there will be more than that number.
