pennant In the first season of the
North Carolina Baseball league and
did not even finish in the first divi
sion, there is plenty of consolation in
the fact that the team led in batting
and also In fielding, according to a
report of the official averages of the
Individual players and teams com
piled by Secretary Todd of the league.

One Ordination at Meeting at
Marshall Resolutions of
Kegret.
An adjoutn.'d meeting of the pres
bytery of French Broud was held In
the Presbyterian church In" Marshall
Thursday. September 18 iit ":'!0 p. m.
to ordain John Smith for the ministry,
Mr. Smith having completed his stud
ies as a candidate Irt the Theological
seminary of lxuiisville and having suc
cessfully passed his examinations for
ordination at a previous meeting. The
presbytery having been duly organiz
ed, the ordination sermon was preach
ed by the Ifev. J. H. Uruver of Reetns
Creek, Rev, Jonn ampoeii or riot
Springs, "moderator, presided : and
propounded the constitutional ' ques
tions. Dr. Thomas Iwrence offered
the ordination prayer, after which the
address to the candidate was made by
the moderator, Mr 'Smith has labor
ed during his vacations us a theologi
cal student and has been appointed to
relieve Dr. Kind ley of Marshall In his
widely extended field.

nevertheless deeply and keenly realize;
the great loss we sustain as a presby-;
tery, Inpartlng with one, who for so
long years. In his kindly and courte
ous Intercourse with his brethren. In
the prudence and wisdom of his coun
sels, has so fully Illustrated and
adorred the office of the faithful pres
byter, '

upon record ourrateful appreciation
ot his "work of faith and labor of
love" as a consecrated 'and approved
