Darrow, the- famous Chicago lawyer, at the Auditorium last night, when he deliv ered his lecture on "Capital and La bor." The audience was largely com posed of members of the labor unions of the city and the lecture by Mr. Darrow was thoroughly enjoyed by them. Guy Weaver Introduced the speaker and paid a very high compli ment to his ability as an attorney, es pecially to the part that Mr. Darrow played in the Mover, Heywood anil Pettibone trials in, Boiso, Idaho, "sev eral years ago. - - Mr. Darrow's lecture was very long, lasting from about 8:30 o'clock until nearly 11, but Very few people left before the last word was said. His is a very pleasing style and he inter spersed his serious thought with enough humor to keep one from get ting tired of facts and figures. At times he grew eloquent, and he can do so when he cares to, and especially beautiful was the closing part of his address. He received at great length the ages of man and told of the needs of those that lived in the different ages, saying that the needs of one age would not satisfy those of another and that when man could not use a thing any longer he usually said that it was sinful for the other fellow to use it. He asserted that capital and labor are enemies and always will be, as long as man works for wages, and that some men win always work for wages, therefore these men will al ways be enemies of capital. While pointing to the fact that employe and employer may be personal friends, when it comes to business they are enemies, for each is looking out for himself. He said that if business was done by the Golden Rule there would be less strife in the world, but that the Golden Rule is religion and that business is business; that so far the two have never mixed. Mr. Darrow will leave the city this afternoon. This morning several members of the Central Labor union took him for a drive over the Bilt- more estate.
