FURTHERING PLANS
APPALACHIAN
PARK
George Powell, of This City
In Washington Conferr
ing With Officials.

Washington, April 3.
George S. Powell of Ashevllle, sec
retary of the Appalachian Park as
sociation, conferred yesterday with
Secretary Daniels and other officials
In Washington with a view to further,
ing the plans ol the association,
whose main object is to have the
Weeks law so amended as to nermlt
the Southern Appalachian mountains
to be opened up as a national park
such as the Yellowstone park and
other similar government grounds of
the west.
It Is believed that eventually some
plan will be worked out to provide for
this park. The plans are to use such
part of the Appalachian forest reserve
which Is being purchased from time
to time under the provisions of the
Weeks' law as a park which will be
open to the people of the east. If the
plans are carried out thousands of
acres of land in western North Caro
lina will be purchased by the govern
ment, roads built and maintained, and
the mountains, which are now lying
idle. Will be converted Into the most
beautiful parte e,ast of the Rockies.
It is proposed to have the govern
ment lease ground for hotels, which
will be thrown open to the public for
recreation and, in short, make the
mountains of western North Carolina
equal, if not superior, to the Yellow
stone National park. Besides the
governors of a half dozen or more
southern states, including Governor
Craig, of North Carolina, many other
prominent men are identified with the
movement. Among them arc Earl
Godbey, of Greensboro; Mayor Han
kin, of Ashevllle, and a dozen or more
other prominent North Carolinians.
Plann are now under way to hold o
conference in Washington the latter
part of this month at whieh the gov
ernors of the several southern states
anc. the members of the board of di
rectors will be invited. At this confer
ence definite plans, It is believed, will
be worked out whereby the associa
tion will have the support of all de
partments of the government.

DRINK HOT TEA
FOR A BAD COLD
Get a small package of Hamburg
Breast Tea, or as the German folk
;all it, "Hamburger Brunt Thee," at any
pharmacy. Take a tab I (-spoonful of the
tea, put a cup of boiling water upon
it, pour through a sieve and drink a
teacup full at any time during the
day or before retiring. It is the moat
effect ivo way to break a cold and cure
grip, as it opens the pores of the akin,
relieving congestion. Also loosens the
bowels, thus driving a cold from the
I 3ystem.
Try it the next time you suffer from
a cold or the grip. It is inexpensive
l and entirely vegetable, therefore safe
i and harmless.

Dowd. Mr. Wilson was a son of Rev.
McKami Wilson, a descendant of
Francis McKamlc, the great Scotchman
who founded the first Presbyterian
church in America. The presentation
speech was made by Judge S. F, Os

-.The Panama Canal Is an enterprise
both commercial and military in con
ception and construction. Its chief
use, of course, is commercial; but It
remains a fact that the impetus that
brought it Into being,, so far as the
United States is concerned, was the
trip of the Oregon from the Pacific to
the Atlantic during the Spanish-American
war.
The military uses of the canal, as
well as the excellent description of the
fortifications that have been planned
to protect It, are lucidly net forth in
"The Panama Canal" by Frederic J.

If you must have your meat every
day, eat It, but flush your kidneys
with salts occasionally, says a noted
authority who tells us that meat forms
uric acid which almost paralyzes the
kidneys in their efforts to expel it
from the blood. They become slug
gish and weaken, then you suffer with
a dull misery in the kidney raft 6ft,
xharp p Ins in the back or nick head
ache, dizziness, your stomach sours,
tongue Is coated and when the weath
er Is bad you have rheumatic twinges.
The urine get cloudy, full of sediment,
the chsnnels often get sore and Irri

or three limes during the night
Tn neutralize these irritating acids.
tO cleanse the kidneys and flush off
