Rankin announced yesterday af ternoon that he had appointed Vice- Mayor F. Stikeleather to represent l he city at the meeting arid L. M McCormlck city bacteriologist, will have personal charge of the large ex hibit this city will send to Charlotte. Mr. McCormlck will leave hera with the exhibit next Tuesday In order to have the different specimens used In the exhibit set up and arranged by the time the league opens Its sessions. The Asheville exhibit will be one of the largest yet sent out by this city to give the people of other cities and states an Idea of Just what Asheville Is doing along all lines. The part of the exhibit pertaining to the health department will be practically the same as the one Mr. McCormlck took to Washington, D. C, where he re ceived sever.'d awards and much fav orable mention from the delegates in attendance at the meeting held there and from the newspapers in the na tional capital. Then too there will be photographs of all the loading schools in the city and nearby, which will give a good impression of Just what these schools are and what they nre doling. There will be a miniature surface closet, a model one, sanitary stable, the large fly used by the health de partment at the fair last fall, and ex hibits of the Asheville water depart ment, giving In detail Just where the city gets its water and how. The Ashe ville public schools will be well rep resented In the exhibit, specimens of the work done In all the schools being preparedVfor shipment to Charlotte. The board of aldermen have decid ed that upon the return here of Mr. McCormlck with the exhibit they will have It installed In the council cham ber at the city hall, where people of this city nan take friends and others Interested In the .welfare of the city and show and explain to them Just what Is being done along all lines. According to information received from Charlotte during the last few days. Mayor Bland, who is president of the league, has been making most extensive preparations for the meet ing of the league and he is expecting th mayors of not only all the North Carolina cities but South Carolina cities as well, .An Invitation has been extended to Mayor John Purroy Mlt- chel of New Tork, to ,be present and make one of the principal addresses of the meeting, but it is not known yet whether or not the New Tork mayor will be able to attend. .The following .program has been nrTiingcfl f nr-.the lni g: "'parade that will take place on the opening day of the meeting. - The parade's head will rest at the eltv hall on North Tryon street, and will extend as far back on Tryon as necessary for easy formation. It will be an automobile parade in Its main features. . The parade will consist of the fol lowing: Mounted policemen (two or four): Steel Creek band, on automobile truck. Officers of Municipal league. In au tomobiles. Visiting mayors In automobiles. ' Ex-mayors of Charlotte, in automo biles. They consist of Hon. F. 1. Os borne, Brevard McDowell, W. C. Max well, J. H. The first department will drop out of the line at the Intersection of Morehcad and South Boulevard, while the health department will drop out at the old fair grounds on east Boule vard. The line of parade will be from the city hall south through Independence square and southward alpng Tryon to Morehead, eastward on Moreneaa to South Boulevard, south on this bolue yard to East Boulevard, and eastward on East Boulevard through the Mey ers park suburb to Elisabeth college, westward on Elizabeth avenue to East avenue and thence on to Independence square again and to the Selwyn hotel. where the parade will disband. concrete floors are to be laid In the bath rooms and ten new baths are to be Installed, making a tota)tf 18. This matter will be taken up at the next meeting of the directors and favorab'le action Is expected as it is felt by the manage ment that some arrangement should bo provided for heating the water that goes Into the swimming pool. Contracts have been let for the Im provement work already decided upon and materials have been ordered for the proposed changes In the locker and bath rooms.
