H OBI CORPS Will BE T Fire Chief James H. Wood Has Called Meeting of all Companies. James Hi. Wood, chlet of the Ashevllte Fire department has call ed a Joint meeting of the com panies of the department for to night at t o'clock,, for the purpose ot selecting members for the Fire, men's Drum corps. Thirty members are needed to put the corps on foot and it is. planned to get as many of this number as possible from the mem pershlp of the fire companies and then call on those who ure not members of the tire department, if enough do not respond to the call tonight. Amon those who ure selected at tonight's meeting will le drummers, bUKlers and the officers of the perma nent organization. The ollicers who are elected immediately will serve for the next six months, it being planned to elect officers twice each year. The members ot the local lire de partment are manifesting a great deal of interest In the corps and it is thought that enough of them will join tonight so that rehearsals will begin this week. Enough rehearsals will be held during the next few weeks to en able the corps to take part, first In the torchlight parade which will be held here on the night of October 7, by the "Dokays" who will hold the fall ceremonial in this city on that date, Then It Is planned to take part in other events that are held in this city this fall und winter. HACKNEY Funeral of a Pioneer Citlzcu Will Be Held on Thursduy Morning. Funeral services over the remains of William N. Hackney, aged 82, who died yesterday at the BUtmore hospi tal, following an illness of two weeks duration, ' will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at the resi dence. Hev. W. E. Poovey, pastor of the North Ashevllle Methodist church will have charge of the ser vices and will be assisted by Rev. Dr. J. C. lto we, pastor' of the Central Methodist church. The Interment will Immediately follow In Riverside cem etery. The following friends of the de ceased will act as pallbearers: Frank 11 . Weaver, John A. Nichojs, A. A. Kuehrer, M. A. Perkins, J. H. Weav er and H . Batterham. - The late Mr. Hackney had been living In this city for about 25 years, coming here from his home in Eng land. He was well known in the city and his passing will be learned with deep regret by his many friends.
