Chapel Hill, March 20. A 16-foot boulevard with a roadway on either side, running between Durham and Chapel Hill may be constructed as result of plans of Chapel Hill board of trade, Durham chamber of com merce, Rotary club and Durham mer chant association. The road at pres ent is in wretched condition when it should be one of the best in the state, on account of its location. Over it travel students from every part of North Carolina. Every year at the Road institute in Chapel Hill It is observed by road engineers and com missioners from all quarters of the state. As a model road It would thus have a great educational influence. The meeting was unanimous In its approval of the prospect. Hearty co-1 operation was promised in speeches by R. O. Everett of the Durham chamber of commerce; E. L Bugg of I the Durham Rotary club; W. H. Muse of the Durham Retail Merchants as sociation and Col. John S. Cunning ham a delegate at large. Dr. Joseph Hyde Pratt, Dr. T. A. Webb and R. L. Strowd represented Chapel Hill. Dr. Pratt state seologlst and secretary of I the State Highway commission, out lined plans for the boulevard, an nouncing that seven manufacturers of I road materials had offered to fur nish free material for the paving of one mile of the road'. The only provi. sloln is that the county lay the road I material. President A. S. Wheeler or the Chapel Hill board of trade appointed a committee to confer at once with a committee in Durham with a view to pushing the project It Is also proposed that the Chapel Hill-Durham road be straightened and on either side of the boulevard to have a wide dirt or sand clay road. The manufacturers have agreet to furnish the necessary material merely 1 for the advertisement they will get from it and also for the benefit of t"e test of the various materials. s r I New Universities Dictionary COUPON . It benefited the merchant only. In a third of a century this old model has developed into a Cash Register that directly benefits every man, woman and child who spends money in a store. This new Cash Register equally concerns every mer chant and clerk, every banker and wholesaler in this land. It furnishes every customer with a receipt or sales slip. It prints on this the amount paid or charged. On this is also printed the date of the sale and who - made it. -. It forces a duplicate, printed record for the merchant. It prevents disputes over chc-ges and bills paid. It saves shoppers' time. It gives the merchant all his profits. It gives him more money for his family. It promotes more and quicker sales. It protects each clerk against making errors and against the mistakes of others. It rewards the diligent clerk by telling his employer which one makes the largest number of sales and which one gets the greatest amount of business. It assures the banker additional security for the money ', he loans the merchant. It gives the wholesaler additional assurance that the merchant will have money to pay his bills. It furnishes the banker and the wholesaler mechanical evidence that the merchant's statement of his business is correct It is a business necessity. 43 wm MERCHANTS!!
