Ben JvMcCulloch commanded on our side with 18,000 men. The enemy numbered 20,000under command of Gen. Lyon. After a sharp engagement Gen. Lyon's forces .were '..routed by the Southerners. Six huidred of the enemy were killed and seven hundred were taken prisoners. ? No further details have been received. 'Shot Lead. Mr. R. J. Twitty, of Rutherord, has shown us a specimen of lead ore, found in ihat County -by Mr. T.i B. Justice. 1 Mr. Twitty took the speci men tcj Richmond to exhibit to the Con federate authorities. We learn (says the Charleston Mercury,) that Senor Moncada, Spanish Consul -for the States of North Carolina, South Caro lina and Georgia, have despatched special messengers' to his Government in Madrid, as well as to the Governor-General of Cuba, giving the full accounts of the great rout of the 21st inst. : He has also made arrangements to have the latest news of the war, from Southern sources, regularly telegraphed to Madrid immediately upon the arrival of the steamers at Liverpool. For the present, suffice it to say that all the available militia force of the faithful States 2,800,000 men will, within one month, be fully equipped, armed and drilled. Immense balloons, capable each of carrying 1.C00 horses, 20,000 men, 50 pieces of artillery and 500 loaded wagons, will be ready to transport our brave troops to the rear of the enemy. The Pres ident thinks it will be absolutely necessary to place 800,000 In the rear of Johnston and Beauregard, the balance, 1,500,000, will be detailed Into armies of from 100,000 to 40u,000, to operate against Nor folk, Yorktown, Wise's and Loring's division, Mem phis, Missouri, ic. Seventy-live of these vast balloons are now pre pared ; by the' end of next week all will be ready. The President in person will lead the largest divi sion. The undersigned having been appointed local Commissioners to receive subscrip tions of stock to the Confederate loan, would respectfully and most earnestly ap peal to the patriotism of the people of Meck lenburg, to come forward with their known liberality, and uphold the Government and sustain the credit of the Confederate Slates, by such substantial aid which their ample means would seem'importantly to demand.
