In many respect his place can never be filled- , As a christian he was z-alnus, fervent and exten- ' sivelv known for his liberal beneficence and char- j ily. Ol him it may be truthfully 9nid, he has j done wht t he could. He was a man ol faith and ' pr.iyer. His life was uniformly consistent with but prolession. As an officer of the Church he was diligent, active and efficient. Although prompt and decid ed when duty called, he was disposed to quench the flame of strife and iltecord before it grew into a general conflagration. He was a friend to tem perance and a lover ol peace and order. Soon after the fever seized his svstem he was confident it would prove his final sickness. To his pastor who said he hoped that a kind Provi dence would prolong his days and spare him many years, he replied that " he felt he would never re cover, and he had set his house in order, that by divine grace he was prepared and willing to die." He had no desire to live longer except to advance the Kingdom of 'he Redeemer by being useful lo his family and fellow-travellers to a boundless eternity. But the Saviour needed him no more on earth. He was wanted above and God took hi.Tt. To him death was only the gate of endless r'y. He is now participating in the scenes of purity, glory and bliss which, as revealed through lhe telescope of faith, constitute the panorama of celestial felicity.
