P 0 1 ? X (TA S . from the Fayetteiille Observer. YES OB NO. When a man I ask a question, I wish he'd answer, yes or no ; Not stop to make some smooth evasion, And only tell me, may be so. "When of a friend I wish to borrow A little cash to hear him say I've none to day, but on to morrow ; It's worse than if he'd told me nay. I from my soul despise all quibbling ; I'll use it not with friend or foe. But when they ask, without dissembling I'll plainly answer, yes or no. But when I ask the trembling question, Will you be mine, my dearest Miss ; Then may there be no hesitation, But say emthatieally, yes, sir, yes ! " SINGLE MAN. BSS The following is copied from a little paper imbli-hcd in Fayetteville in 1820, called the "Tell- ' , tale I COULD NOT HELP 1 T ; NO, NOT I. A plague upon the men, I say, Ihey'll never leave poor girls alone, E'er teaming, seizing, night and day, 'Till they have won us for their own. First with a kiss he stopped my breath, And softly said, sweet creature, why ? And tho' he stjueez'd me most to death, I could not help it; no, not I. Well, what do you think at hist I said ? I never shall forget, no ne'er; "I tell you plain, I'll never wed, So tease me now then if you dare." When it is neci-s -ary to feed infants artificially, and Cows' iniik is used, it should be first boiled, and skimmed then sweetened a little with BQgr, and next a little salt added, not enough to give it a saltish taste; milk thus prepared will not only prevent the indigestion and consequent acidity, flatulence, col e, diarrhoea, kc, from which sucking children suffer so much, but will actually cure them ; so says Hall's Journal of Health. A hearty infant will swallow, during the first year of its life, fourteen hundred pounds of milk, in which are twenty -one pounds of cheese, thirty po lads of butter, and a huudred and twelve pounds oi sugar. At six cents a quart, with the necessa ry sweeting, each "dear" little creature costs, for food alone, fifty dollars for the first year. To effect such purposes, the harrow should be light and strong, and made to embrace as much of the ground as possible; and for the purpose f making it lie close, it is of im portance to have it jointed.
