A Touching Story. A gentleman in temperance lecture in Boston, related the following : I was told -o-day a story so touching io reference to this, that jou must let mo tell it. It is a temperance case, but will illus trate this just a well. It is the story of a mother en the grte o Lills of Vermont, h Ad iDg Ij the right lni;d, a son sixteen years old, mad with the love of the sea. And as the steod ly the garden gale on a eucny rooming, raid : "Edward, they tell tue for I never saw the ocean, that ibe great temptation of a sailor's Ufa is drink. Promise me before you quit your mother's baud, that you will Lever drink. '' "And," said he, for she to'.d me the (story, " I fiavc her the promise, aLtl I went the broad globe over Calcutta, the Mediicraniau, San Francisco, ibe Cape of Good Hope, tho North Pole and the South, 1 saw all in forty years, and I never saw a glass filled with Fparkiicg liquor but that my n;otlic;-'s form by the garden gate on the green hill side of Vermont, did not rite before me; and to-day, at -ixty, my lips are iouoceut of tho ta.-te of liquor." Was not that sweet evidence of the pow er of a tingle word ! Ytt that was but half. "Tor'' faid he. "yesterday there came to niv couniug room, a young man cf forty aud aked u:e. " Lo you know me ?'
