The motion made it incumbent upon the mavor to appoint a special com mtttee to select a site for the new fire at&tiop immecliatly. The executives are expected to con tinuo their conferences tomorrow, and tonight it was indicated that there were prospects that the large eastern roads through their executive would reach an agreement that would relieve the interstate commerce commission of the ask of -settling the controversy wh'ch is now before it antl on which hearings were resumed today. Without a dissenting vote the con gregation Of tho Blacknall Memorial Presbyterian . church last Sunday ac cepted the resignation of Kov. C. J. Whitely as lastor. Mr. wnitciy pre. sentcd his resignation two weeks ago, announcing that it was due to' a dis agreement with church officials regard ing church policies. The meeting Sunday morning- was presided over by Dr. D. H.- Kcanl-jn, pastor of the First Presbyttrian church and lasted only et few minutes. It followed regular services conducted by Dr; Scanlon. After voting to accept -'Mr. Whitely's resignation the congregation appointed S. L. Claytor, Dr. J. Reed Sterritt, and J. J. Wbods to constitute a puplit committee. Dr. Scanlon in Stating the purpose of the congregational meeting, merely stated that Mr. Whitely had 'tendered bis resignation, and lhat the meeting was called in order that the resignation might be acted upon.
