The much talked of discrimin ation of freight rates is still the topic of the merchants of the city. These unjust rates are be ing charged in three of the larg est manufacturing towns in the State, namely Winston, Greens boro and Durham. The petition of the Durham merchants i3 now in, and it is now understood that on Monday there will beld a conference in Raleigh wherein all complaints will be heard before going to the Intejr-State Commission. The Durham merchants can show how the freight from var ious points in Virginia are ship ped into the State with freight rates almost unheard of in ether partj of the country. After giving two of the tables in which the rates are given from uarious points, the following paragraph appearsin the petition, this showing the complaint of the nwrehants and the business men. "it will thus appear that from Boston to Lynchburg the! rate is 54 cents on the ilr.-t class freight and from the same point to Durham the same class of freight is 08 cents, a difference of 35 cents on the 100 pounds; that from New York to Lynch burg the rate on the same class of freight is 54 cents, from New York to Durham 81 cents; that w Hi m ii ill Mt Ml U U 'J til Hi V.
