The physicians throughout the State met in : Durham yesterday and those who attended the con- ventioir had a splendid'time. In addition, to the business trans- acted the entire party were giv en a trolley ride over the entire city.- After the ride there was 1,,' ..f an old fashioned Barbecue at Iakewood Park and every mem ber of the convention attended and did, ample justice to the sumptioureparts. v- s The business session was held in the beautiful Casino at Lake- wood and was presided over by Dr. A: ; W. Knox, of Raleigh, who called the meeting to order shortly after the noon hour. Dr. Joe Graham, of this city, acted as secretary of the district Aoout sixty physicians were present Dr. Knox made the annualjaddress and was followed by Dr. W. IL Boone',- who pre sented a paper - that "received praise and which wits. liberally discussed by the visitors. The medical men were gener orous to more than their frater nity visitors. They had for guests at dinner, "the dentists. pharmacists, Caft.KDick Wright, Manager Bob Lindsey and May or Graham. These sat with them add spent the day there, of the party being photographed by Mr. Holladay. .The doctors returned to the Casino at 2 p. m. and Dr. Eric Abernathy, of Chapel Hjll, pre sented a paper that called forth applauseand long discussion. It was technical but timely. Dr. Julian Smith caused great laugh ter by his drollery when Dr. Abernathy hesitating at his man uscript, said: "I must have had mm too mucn Deer," was sympa thetically answered, "yes. sir. I understand." The whole con vention roared. Dr. R. L. Felts, of Durham. read a paper that was very free ly discussed and with the end of the debate on the three essays, he chairman announced the election of officers for the follow ing year. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Dr. h. M. Johnson, countv physician was unanimously chos en president. Dr. F. S. Faucette, of ; Burlington, vice-president; Dr. Arthur Braflsher, of Rox boro, secretary. " - wrecKea ana two men hurt. wa3 the excitement of the afternoon Wednesday following the base ball game. ' The machine of-. Dr. T. A. Mann was running at a nice clip along West (Main street down grade and coming into the city: The street was full of vehicles and Dr.. Mann was steerinc his machine close to , the t curb Mr. John, Pugh was with him and when thev ran into the rough portion of the street the front axle broke and both men were thrown violently to the ground. Both were pitched headlong, the machine itself do ing a sort of mid-air stunt and completely somersaulting itself. Xhe accident occurred in front of DfR. A. Moore's house and the disorder of the machine caused the fright of several horses, one belonging to Dr. J. M. Manning, almost tearing it self, from tfye buggy. Mr. Pugh was taken into the house and later brought up town. Hi3arm is shattered but not broken and his hip was badly bruised, while he 'suffers , some from internal injuries- His wounds are. not serious however. Dr. Mann received some bruis-' es but is not stopped from his work. V The meeting'; of the distrie conference at Mebane is : being attended by all of Durham's Methodist ministers and all o them went up ' to the opening session. There is no unusual business to come before this conference though it is an important one and will continue over Sunday. Rev. J. B. Sergeant Aldridge. who Sun day captured William Slocum in Durham and took him back to Mebane where he was charere with forging the name of D. A. Baker on a check of $75, heard yesterday that Slocum was the man wanted and was bound over to court under a bond of $300. Slocum lives in Durham and Mr. Aldridge slipped un on him in his home. He is a rniddl-atred man and has borne a generally. good t reputation.
