After it became known that the
funeral had already been held, a tre
mendous crowd visited the cemetery.

Reidsvllle, Nov. 27. News of the
tragic death of J. F. Martin in a
hotel at Memphis, Tenn., Satur
day, came as a great shock to
a large number of people In
Reldsviile and Rockingham coun
ty. Martin was a son of Mr.
Shabe . Martin of Wentworth,
and traveled for R. C. Richardson, .
Jr., and Company, of Reidsvllle,
manufacturer! of "Old North State"
smoking tobacco.- He was well
known over the county, especially In
Reidsvllle and Wentworth, and waa
highly esteemed by ail who knew
htm intimately. He was nnmarried
and about ! years -of age. v. .
Martin met hi. death at tbe bands
of E. I. Nonemacher when the latter
attempted to enter a room in an up
town hcl at Memphis Saturday.
Mra. Nonemacher barely escaped be
ing ehot. Before her marriage she
resided at Chattanooga, Tenn.
Nonemacher- is a former ticket
agent at the Memphis union station,
and with his wife moved to Memphis
recently from Columbus. Miss. He
went to the ho el in search of bis
wife, met Martin at the door of a
private room and opened fire. Mar
tin fell mortally wounded. Two
shotg took effect, one bullet plerd-ij
the liver and the other lodging near
the larynx, from which death ensued
Saturday night.
Mra. Nonemacher rushed to the
door and locked it, saving herself,
from a continuation of the attack. 1
