E DR. SHERWOOD'S Vibrating Magnetic Machines. By receat improvements in these Machines, their power is doubled in cases ot the same size, and the prices reduced to 12 and $14 each; the $12 sizes being greatly superior to the 12 sizes of ether machines. They now run with more potver and smoothness, and are better adapted lor magnetizing patients than any other in use. Each case is accompanied with a Manuel (11th edition, p. 400, 32 mo.) in the English or French language, according to order, which contains clear and minute directions for the proper use of the instrument in the various diseases to which it is applicable, which are found to include many of the most peculiar and obstinate that are known to the medical profession. The Manuel also con tains a synopsis of the different systems of medi cal practice, Allopathic, Homcepathic, and Mag nopathic, with a full glossary. Physicians and others are cautioned against purchasing the imitations of these machines, as they will be found of comparatively little value. No premium has ever been obtained over these magnetic machines at the American or any other Institute, as is represented by the jianufaeturers of inferior machines. Crj"- As I have becomo the Agent for the sale of the above Machines from u conviction of their usefulness in disease, and not from any desire to speculate on them; and am responsible to tl c owner for them, tliey can only be obtained by the payment of th eah on the delivery of the Machine. I have deposited them with Air Bayne at the Carolinian Office, who will show them, or deliver them on the payment of the cash price, and on no other terms. CHARLES MONTAGUE. April 7, 1S49. Cm. For this class of complaints they are now extensively adopted by physicians in their own practice in various parts of the country. They are prepared by us under the direction of the Executrix of the estate of the lute Dr. Sherwood, to whom, by his will, his medical recipes are intrusted in the all respects as heretofore, and are always accompanied by Dr. Sherwood's val uable medical treatise upon the treatment of Chronic Diseases, a work which was the result of many years of labor and research, and which shows in the clearest manner the principles up on which the operation of his remedies is found ed and their mode of cure. This work will en able any person to detect the nature and extent of scrofulous or tuberculous disease in himself or others, by pressure on the ganglions of the spinal nerves, on the spaces between the vertebra; along each side of the spine. Whig thus notices a scene, at the execu tion of John M. Riley, near that place, on the 8th ult. for the murder of William W dlis, which seems to have stricken ter ror to the stoutest hearts : "On arriving at the gallows, a dark cloud which had previously arose in the west, overspread the entire 'firmament with its murky folds and caused consternation around. Every thing was now in confu sion. As the thick masses of clouds gathered their folds deeper overhead, the crowd below partook of the character of the disruptive elements abjve. Nature seemed in convulsions. All was dismay, confusion and consternation! A single blaze of lightning, in its uviaiion, struck a tree near u here the gallows was erected, and lightened it up in one sulj.hui ious flame. The rain descended in torrents, the vivid lightnings flashed around, the muttering thunderrumbled along the thick folds of clouds, and horror sei.ed upon the ht'artsof the people. The women fell into swoons, and the men trampled upon them as they hurried to and fro. frightened out of their w its. All was confusion ami uproar! Trees falling on every side the thunder roaring overhead, and" the lightn ing flashing in their faces caused in the crowd a panic never before witnessed. Those that were on horses rushed from the place as if Old Nick w as after them. All thought they saw the devil ; una those that did not leave, staid there from physical inability to get away, for they were too much frightened to leave." Cohoneh's Inquest. A Coroner's In quest was yesterday held on the body o: Lewis Dunning, supposed to have come u his death by a blow inflicted by a sailor, named Sandy, or Alexander, a large ath lethic man, with whom he had a dispute on Wednesday or" -Thursday evening last. Dunning died on Tuesday evening, about 7 o'clock. Alexander belongs to the brig Maria, which sailed for Bristol, R. I. on Sunday last. We learn, incidental! y that Alexander probably acted in self-defence ff'ilmi nekton Commercial. Another Nahuow Escatk from Bury ing Ativk. Some four or live appallihg cases of this sort have occurred iu Cincin nati and St. Louis, lately, in the tnidt of the fearful rage of mortality from the scourge. The Cincinnati Commercial of the 1 3th, gives the latest as follows: ' We learn from Col. Williamson, of Lockland, that a man was seized with cholera in that town on Wednesday, and died in a few hours or rather he was pro nounced dead, and the parapharnalia of mourning was assumed. The body was laid out and placed in the coffin ; but a few hours previous to the time appointed for the funeral, the dead man rose front his coffin, to the great terror of those around, and walked out of it in his shroud! He divested himself of the garments of his grave, and is now apparently a well man. It is needless to add that he sent the colTm back, having no further use for it. 1 his is true, and it is another too much haste in burials warm no- against Singular Affair. A few weeks since, a father and son, living in Ross county, by the name of Christy, bwth of whom Were addicted to intemperance, quarreled, and the so beat the father. The father then ordered the son to leave his premises, threatening, if l.c returned, to kill him. The sou did return, and the father true to his word for once, shot him dead in his tracks. The citizens being afraid to ar rest him after the commission of the horrid d?ed, he left, and went into Clinton county, where he run at large for two or three weeks, until his daughter, who had wit nessed the tragedy, learning his where abouts, followed him into Clinton, went before a magistrate, made oath to the facts, ami had her father arrested. At last ac counts, he was lying in Clinton jail, await ing the arrival of the sheriff from Ross. 1 his case is certainly without a paralled a f.:ther beaten by his son, a son hot by his father, and the father arrested upon the affidavit of hisdaughter. Ohio Statesman. M i:l ncuoly Incidknt. The N. V. Express relates the following melancholy incident -. Two -Young ladies, beautiful and ac complishcd Mary Louisa and Virginia Star, one 19 the other 21 years of age, -were both engaged to be married on Mon day last. A Jersey tailor, one Jonas Toplifl', declares positively that he has in his shop a suit of clothes which he made for the Devil. He says he was hunting out in the marshes when he met a strange looking man who asked him if he wasn't a tailor. He re plied "yes.' Some person uttered this sneering expres sion within hearing of the editor of the Cin cinnati Times, he indignantly replies as follows, in defence of the piofession he follows in pride: Nobody but a printer, forsooth! it makes our free blood run through our veins to hear such expressions from the lips of t'.iusc nursed on republican soil- And has labor become disgraceful? Is the name of a Printer a reproach in the land? We cannot believe it. Wlmev-'v gitis a livelihood by toil, is a nob'eman. Let the mistaken souls of our land scorn those who honestly work" out the pen al condition prescribed by the Creator and if justice is not gone for ever, they will blister their hands with manual labor. We have seen such justice even in our day. A witness called to give testimony in a country town court about a lost shirt, came to the point very abruptly as fol lows : Mother said, that Sal said, that Polly said, that Bob told her, that he saw a boy, that seen a fellow that run through the street, with a red striped flannel shirt of a white color, and all checker, checker, and our gals won't lie, for the old woman has licked 'em a hundred times for lying.' Jonas measured him, agreed to make the clothes, and did make them: but thinking it a strange place to carry clothes, lie first crossed himself and sprinkled the clothes with water in the Catholic Church at New ark. e then w ent out on the marshes, where he saw the strange man; but the moment he came in sight the man vanished, ami he was unable to rind him. Some peo ple think Jonas invented this story to at tract people to his shop, when he exhibits the dollies the cloth of them bein-r 0f beautiful silky fine texture. At" all events, Jonas' custom has increased won derfully since he has become tailor to his satanic majesty.
