The following letter from HUhop Ives, who has lately jninetl the Catholic church, is addressed to the Convention ot" the Protestant Episcopal Church, in the Dio cese of North Carolina : Romk, Wednesday, Dec-22, 1832. Dear Brethren : Some of you, at least, are aware that for years doubts of the validity of my oflice as Bishop have at times harrassed toy miid and greatly en feebled my action. At other times, it is true, circumstances have arisen to over rule these doubts, and to brinj; to uiy mind temporary relief. But it has been only temporary, for, in spite of resolutions to abandon the reading ami the use of Catho liir txmks, in spite ot earnest prayers and entreaties that God would protect y mind against the distressing influence of Catholic Truth; and in spite of public and private professions and declarations which in times of suspended doubt I sincerely made to shield myself from suspicion and win back the confidence of mv diocese. which hail been well nigh lost in spite of all this, and of many other considerations which would rise up before me, as the necessary consequence of suffering my mind to be carried forward in the. direc tion in which my doubts pointed, these doubts would aain return with increased and almost overwhelming virr, goatling me at times lo the very borders of derange ment.
