All the above articles must be subject to such
itspection at the place of delivery f:s the Chief

which does not conform in all other respects to

The whole must he delivered at the risk and
expense of the contractor, in good, tight, sub
stantial, and dry packing boxes or bales; each
bx and bale to be marked with the contractor's
tiiir.e, and the year and month when manufactur
e! ir put up; the whole to be put up in good
shipping order, free of all charges to the United
States, and to the entile satisfaction of the in
specting oSIicers, said officers to be appointed by
the Navy Department.
The oilers must distinguish the prices for each
'article mentioned, and must he calculated to cov
er every expense attending the fulfilment of the
contract, including the necessary metal and na-
!.n case of failure on the part of the contrac
tors to furnish ami deliver the several articles
which may be ordered from them, in proper lime
anl of proper anility, the Chief of the Bureau of
provisions and Clothing shall be authorized to
purchase or direct purchases to be made of w hat
ii iy be jequired to supply the deficiency, under
the penalty to he expressed in the contract; the
record of a requisit ion, or a duplicate copv there
of, t the Bureau of Provisions and Clothing, or
at either of the e.avy yards aforesaid, shall be evi
dence that such reouisit-ioii hts been made end
received.
Two r more approved sureties inn sum equal
to the estimated amount of t he respective con
tracts will be required, and ten per centum will
be w ithheld from the amount- cf all payments on
account thereof as collateral security, and not
in any event to be paid until it is in all icspects
complied with; and ninety per centum of the a
monnt of all deliveries made will be paid bv the

Bidders whose proposals are accepted (and
none others) will be forthwith notified, and as
early as practicable a contract w ill be transmitt
ed to them for execution, which contract must
be returned to the Bureau within rive davs, ex
clusive of the time required for the regular
transmission of the mail.
A record, or duplicate of the letter- informing
a bidder of the acceptance -of his proposal, w ill
be-Ldeemed a notification thereof, within the
meaning of the act of 1S40 and his bid will he
made and accepted ia conformity with this un
derstanding.

Red B.ir.k plantation, in the county of Robe-on,
containing 4,000 acres, more or less, lying on
both sides of Lumber River, on the main road
from Lutnbeilon to Floral College, .seventeen
miles from the Lymer, and seven from the hit
ter place; also, on the main road from Harllees
ville, S. C, to Fayetteviiie, thirty-three milei
south of the latter place. They feel no hesita
tion in saying that said plantation possesses
as mny conveniences and advantages as any ever
offered for side, in this section of the State.
