Newbern .Itlanlic. FROM CALIFORNIA. The steamer Northern Light arrived at New York on the 24th from California. Mining continued, prosperous, and large amounts of gold were being obtained. A duel was on the tanis between Senator Gwin and Mr McCorkle, member of Con gress. They were to fight at six paces with pistols. . A fire occurred in San Francisco on -the Slst ult., which destroyed properly to the amount of 30. 000. The ship Jamestown had arrived at San Francisco from China with later advices. Her dates are to April Gtli. Her captain . reports that the - rebels had been driven away from th walls of Nankin, and terri fic slaughter followed. The dead and wounded were literally piled one on lop of the other. The government, it was be lieved, would finally triumph. SERIOUS RIOT AT NEW YORK. Nkw York.
