THE NORTH CAROLINIAN, FAYETTE VILL E, N. C.
The World as It Is.
i 1 1
The
world is not so baa a woim
it 1 ! "1 - . .. o Vr e it
As some wouia iuvu i jou.v, .
Tho' whether good or whether bad',
Depends on how wc take it :
For if we scold and fret all day,
From dewy morn till even,
This world will ne'er afford to man,
A foretaste here of heaven.
This world's in truth as good a world
As e'er was known to any
Who have not seen another yet,
And these arc very many.
And if the men and women too
Have plenty of employment,
Those surely must be hard to please
"Who eaunot find enjoyment.
This world is quite a clever world,
In rain or pleasant weather,
If people would but learn to live
In harmony together,
Xor seek to burst the kindly bond
By love and peace cemented,
And learn the best of lessons yet,
To always be contented. .
Then were the world a pleasant world,
And pleasant folks were in it,
The day would pass most pleasantly
To those who thus begin it;
And ull the nameless grievances,
Brought on by borrowed troubles,
Would prove, as certainly they are,
A mass of empty bubbles.

AVER'S CHERRY PECTORAL
for the Cure of Coughs. Colds, Iloarxt ness. Bron
chitis, ll'hooping-Cough, Croup, Jlstima, and Con
suittption. Of all the numerous medicines ex
tant, (and some of them valuable)
for the cure of pulmonary complaints,
nothing has ever been found which
could compare in its effects with this
Preparation. Others cure some
times, but at all times and in all dis
eases of the lungs and throat where
medicine can give relief, this will do it. It is pleasant
to take, and perfectly safe in accordance with the di
rections. We do not advertise for the information of
those who have tried it but those who have not. Fami
lies that have known its value will not be without it,
and by its timely use. they are secure from the danger
ous consequences of Coughs and Colds which neglected,
ripen into fatal consumption.
The Diploma of the Massachusetts Institute was
awarded to this preparation by the Board of Judges in
September 1817; also, the Medals of the three great In
stitutes of Art, in this country; also the Diploma of the
Ohio Institute at Cincinnati, has been given to the
Cherry Pectoral, by their Government in consideration
of its extraordinary excellence and usefulness in curing
affections of the Lung and Throat.

Dr. Aver : In the month of July last I was attacked
by a violent diarrhoea in the mines of California I re
turned to San Francisco in hope of receiving benefit
from a change of climate and diet. My diarrhtra ceas
ed, but was followed by a severe eoindi.'
soreness. I finally ktarted for home, but received no
benefit from the voyage. My cough continued to grow
worse, and when 1 arrived in New York. 1 nt
marked by my acquaintances as a victim of consump
tion. I must confess that I saw no Fufiieient reason to
doubt what my friends -all believed. At this time I
commenced taking your truly invaluable medicine
with little expectation of deriving any benefit from its
use. You would not receive these lines did I not re
gard it my duty to state to the afllicted, through you.
that my health, in the space of eight months, is fully
restored. I attribute it to the use of your Cherry Pec

A Cough and the alarming symptoms of Consumption

The plan of Mutual Insurance must commend itself
to our community, for it can be demonstrated that we
have saved within the last six years upwards of $30,000

than we have actually paid; and yet the North Carolina

that we are favorably situated, as compareu wun oiuei

Sir : Your Pills and Ointment have stood the highest
on our sales of Proprietary Medicines, for some years.

sires me to let you know the circumstances of her case
She had been troubled for years with a disordered liver
and bad digestion. Ou the last occasion, however, the
virulence of the attack was so alarming, and the infla
mation set in so severely, that doubts were entertained
of her being able to bear up under it; fortunately
she was induced to try your Pills, and she informs me
that after the first, and each succeeding dose she had
great relief. She continued to take them, and although
she used only three boxes, she is now in the enjoyment
of perfect health. I could have sent you many more
cases, but the above, from the severity ok the attack,
and the speedy cure. I th.uk, speaks much in favor of
your astonishing Pills.

RHEUMATISM CAN BE Cl'KKD.
We now oiler for sale that celebrated remedy,
Moktimkk's Rhki math; Compound A Bi.ooi Pi kifikk,
Which has gained such great Popularity wherever in
troduced, as the only specific known for the effectual
cure of this painful disease. This remedy has already
cured thousands of cases, comprising every seeming
form of this complaint, from the inflammatory (acute)
form, attended with swellings and enlargement of the
joints, to old chronic cases of from ten to twenty and
thirty years' standing. Those who had for years resort
ed to the various celebrated springs, had tried all the
liniments and external applications, and leeii under
treatment of some of the ablest physicians both in this
country and Europe, and were pronounced incurable;
still, al ter all these efforts had failed, this compound has
cured them. Many who have fteen cripples, either hob
bling upon crutches or confined to their beds for years,
certify to a complete and permanent cure by the use of
this remedy.
We have not space, in a newspaper advertsienient, to
insert but a small portion of the accumulated evidence
in its behalf. This evidence comes from sources which
must inspire confidence in every mind. The conductors
of high-toned public journals have published to the world
its wonderful and Iteneticial effects upon themselves and
those around them, ami in some instances speak of hun
dreds of cures. Physicians have resorted to it. and cer
tify that, even iu extreme cases, where consultations had
been held, and they hail decided that there were no hopes
of recovery, even then, they procured this medicine and
administered it. and it effected a complete cure. Minis
ters of various denominations have written and published
w hat it has done for themselves and their friends; w hile
merchants, officers, mechanics, and private citizens, have
furnished volumes of evidence of the highest character,
such as accompanies no other preparation in America. '
We most respectfully ask those who are afflicted to
send to the agent in their vicinity and get a circular, and
read the letters and certificates of Rev, Jas Mitchel, Rev
N. G. Bcrryinan, J. M. Kelly, Rev R. A. Colburn, and
other clergymen; while we add the names of Hon J.
Smith, late President of the Bank of the State of Misl
souri; Geo. (). Athertoii. officer in the Bank in St. Louis
Messrs Jas. II. Eddy. S. Downing. A. Holland, C. w!
Stone, J. W. Christy. Joseph Southack, with other pro
minent merchants of St. Louis, as also vast numbers of
other citizens.
This is home evidence, and these are living witnesses
where this great remedy was first introduced, and where
many thousands have been cured during the last two
years. The propietors have now opened their Great
Central Office at No. 1 Barclay street. (Astor House) iu
the city of New York, where all orders for this medi
cine will le promptly attended to.
This is a vegetable spirit an internal remedy, pre

it will cure.
