Earthly Dreams.
There never was an earthly dream
Of beauty and delight,
That mingled not too soon with clouds.
As son-rays with the night;
That faded not from that fond heart,
Where once it loved to stray
And left that heart more desolate,
For having felt its sway.
There never was a glad bright eye,
But it was dimmed with tears,
Caused by such griefs as ever dnll
The sunshine of our years;
We look npon the swaetest flower
'Tis withered soon and gone;
We gaze npon a star, to find
But darkness where it shone.
There .never was a noble heart,
A mind of worth and power,
That hajd not in this chan ging world,
Pain-, misery, for its dower;
The laurel on the brow hath hid
From many a careless eye
The secret of the soul within,
Its blight and agony.
There never was there cannot be
On earth a precious spring',
Whose waters to the fevered ?ip,
Unfailing we may bring;
All changeth on this troubled shore;
Or passeth from the sight
Oh! for that world where joy and peace
Reign as eternal light!

X5 Why Labor so Hard when
Washing? I have a chemical process, for cleaning
clothes by the use of which the clothes can be washed
very clean without boiling, and with very little rub

the washing is done in half the time, and the clothes
re very white and clean, and last much longer, ior
they are not worn ont bv rubbing as by the old way

In mercy to the afflicted, and the gratitude and high
opinion I entertain of Dr Moseley, as a Sureeon and
Physician, I deem it my duty to mention tbe case of
my wife, hoping at the same time that all persons simi
larly afflicted may be benelitted by it. In tbe fore
part of this year, my wife had several small lumps to
make their appearance in her breast ; they continued
to increase in size, until the whole breast became a
diseased mass, and very painful. I procured the best
medical aid in the city of Rome, and notwithstanding
the earnest and laithtul attention ot the most ssiltul
physicians, she continued to grow worse and worse
until they gave the case up as incurable, and advised
amputation. I was advised by luany of my friends, to
visit Dr. W. R. Moseley, of Griffin, Ga., wiich I did,
and, astonishing as it may seem, he had her entirely
cured within one monthJ and she is now in good
health!! I would advise all who are afflicted with Scir

PROSPCETUS
OF THE
SOUTHERN LITERARY MESSENGER
For the Year 1856. July to December.
TWBSTY.TH1BD VOL.1 ME.
In issuing the Prospectus of the Twenty-Third Vol
ume of tbe SOUTHERN LITERARY MESSENGER,
commencing with the'July No., the Proprietors rely
solely on tbe encouraging letters and promises of the
friends of the Messenger to aid them in extending its
circulation, and they beg to assure the public tbat no
exertions will be remitted on their part to maintain
the high character of the work, and to challenge the
patronage f all who value sterling literary merit.
For Twenty-One Years, the Messenger has endeavored
to reflect faithfully the Southern mind, while disdaining
all narrow and sectional views, and has been alone
among the monthly periodicals of America, in defence
of the PECULIAR INSTITUTIONS OF THE
SOUTHERN STATES.
To this office it will be devoted, and will be prompt
to repel assaults upon the South, whether they come
under tbe specious garb of fiction, or in the direct form
of anti-slavery pamphlets. At this critical juncture,
while our enemies are employing literature as their
most potent weapons of attack, the Southern people
will surely not withhold their encouragement from a
work whose aim it shall be to strike blows in their de
fence. The Messenger will, as heretofe, present its readers
with Reviews, Historical and Biographical
Sketches, Novels, Tales, Travels, Essays, Poems,
Critiques, and Papers on the Army, Navy and
other National Subjects.
With a view to ensure a larger circulation qf the
MESSENGER, the Proprietors thougb they intend
greatly increasing the size of the work, have reduced
the price of Sapscription, which is now only

VEGETABLE AGUE OR ANTI-FEVER PILLS.
WE would call the attention of persons afflicted
with Chills and Fevers to this celebrated Pill, which
owes its popularity to- no puffing, nor to long, windy
certificates but solely to its own merits as a remedy
which never fails to cure when taken according to
directions accompanying each box. This Pill unlike
many others, contains no mineral, nor any injurious
ingredient, and may be administered with perfect safe
ty at all times, to young ar old.
As a preventative against Chills, or any other type
of Fever, it is recommended as unsurpassed; and in
treatment of Fevers generally it is far superior to
Quinine, or any preparation of Peruvian bark. A trial
of its merits is all that is needed to insure it a favora
ble po. ition in the estimetion of even tha most invet
erate opposer of Proprietary or Patent prescriptions.
CHAMPION'S IANTI.BILL101S PILLS.
