"Fellow-Citizens: Juv announcing myself to jou as a candidate for yonr suffrages at tlie election to be held in next August for the office of Governor, I take the occasion to repeat the regret I have often expressed that some one else better qualified to maintain and uphold the great questional havt been for the last six month?! endeavoring to present to yon, has not consented to take, or continue in the field. The political sagaeity of the Register, which discovers so many potential reasons for promoting Mr McRae, will not ho credited to the account f its honesty; they are too pointedly adapted to the unhappy condition of its party, and too shabily transparent for even the thick veil of Patriotism. As long as a principle of opposition could be made out of Catholics and Foreigners, know-noth-ingjsm was strangely oblivious to the mighty im portance of Distribution, and the serious perils environing the interests of North Carolina, and has ody become cojiscious, when the poverty and ex tinction of its party demands fresh capital to give vitality to its consumptive press. The representative of a party which required as a passport into their ranks ai oath "never to v4tc for a democrat," now declares his identity with an avowed member of that hated pastf, and admits it to be his duty to advocote his claims, and that too upon the merits of a measure which the editorial head of the Register concedes to be the policy of Jas. Buchanan. Whatever "disgust" Mr McRae may now feel fOT Platforms, his proficiency in the construction of such party furniture is very suggestive nor will the approbation of the Register make this sudden rebellion against party lines any the less awkwardi It ia consistent enough for the appre ciation of know-nothingism, we admit, for no plat- form of that party ever commanded sufficient re- spectfsom its fxanaers toebservo any principle iuj it, not even the one which declares that "office shall seek the man anu not man the of-' as in the case of the Distribution Cane" We deny fhat any dignity belongs to the pe .k. aken by Me MoRae, upon the igt-ne presented!., claims for office, nor will the ' support of all ue know nothing papers in the State inspire' as avitb any more- confidence. - " - Upon the whole, we think Mr McReehar alien into bad hands, but for his consolation will vei lure upon the same Sage prophesy of one of ooipotenipo raries that ''if enough Democrats vote for him be will be elected." . - , - Mr M:Rae's Appointmc: We are requested to publish the fol ring ap pointments for the" Distribution Cai Idate for Governor, D.
