W..MAHCH 30, l&M WALTER LETTER. A Condensed Chronicling of a Week's .Happenings, Mr. Jack Eison, from your city, was in the community Sun dry evening. Mr. Marshall Sasser, from noar Fremont, was visiting hi3 mother, Mrs. Kizzy Sassor, last Sunday. Messrs. Matthew and A. J. ' Woodard from your city spent Sunday evening at Mr. J. C. Hoveli'fj. Miss Vene Dixon, one of our populir yoang lidies, returned home yesterday from a visit to her sister Mrs. Has' io e, at Princeton. Mr- and Mrs. D. A. Sa,sser spent Saturday and Sunday at Mrs. Sasser's parents, Mr. and Mrs B..b Yelvei ton. We regret to learn of the illness of Mr. Yelver t n . Mr. Jarvis Sugg, from Green ville, N, C, whs in our commun ity last week, visiting relative?, "We were gla I to see him and to know ho had recovered from his recent illness. Mr. Jno Nia', from Hiilsboro, N. C, spent Sanday with his brother Mr. TV. H. Nual. lie has charge of th's soction on the rail road, as M' Oarr is confined to his home by sickness. We fa;l to see tbe reason oi tha scarcity of fish. List year it was charged to the want of water, but surely that cannot be the cause this year, for the streams have been ovsrfi.'W'ng for several weeks, but sti I shad are scarce and so hig'-, the farmers, or at least, many of them, can't aff rd them. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Dad ley Taltcn died last Wednesday morning, very sud denly and unexpectedly- to the parents. Mrs. Tulion was up at 4 o'clock a. in. and after preparing breakfast, found the baby dead in bed. It, had had no previous sick ness, except slight cold. The be reaved parents have our sympathy. Our friend Mr. Tob Crocker is the first to plant corn that we have heard of, "though on the sand bil!s do d-jubt many have planted. We cou'd never sea the advantage of putting seed of any kind in the ground where it would require a are around it to causa the sted to germinate, as has been tbe rase this spring. But then "the early bird catches the worm." Wei', we do not know how we are to get to town after awhile, with the new road planted in cot ton and peas, and the other one run out by S:indy Plains and the euburbs of Pikeville; we suppose we will either have to gel a cross tie ticket, or go to the junction and flag the train. The change in the Hooks road makes a prettier road, but puts us half a mile far " Want of Watchfulness 1 flakes the Thief' Many cases of poor health come from ivant of watch fulness.
