UNITED ON ALL. ISSUES. ISTHMIANCANAL PROJECT. Cleveland's Great Address at the Tilden Club. New York, June 19. Democratic unity was the keynote today of a great gathering of representative Democrats who hadcome to attend the opening oi the handsome new quarters of the Tilden Club. Ad dresses were made by prominent Democrats and afterward ajcollation was served in the banquet hall to the distinguished guests of the even ing and a buffet supper was served in the basement for the rank and file. .To Democrats the event was one of most memorable for many a day and Grover Cleveland and David B. Hill met in harmony, seeking to draw the factions of their party to gether, It was the first Jpublic politi cal appearance of the ex-President in five years. He spoke first, ex Senator Hill spoke after him and then Governor A. J. Montague, of Virginia, and Col. W. A. Gaston, of Boston, delivered . addresses. Mr. Bryan had been invited to attend, but no reply was received from him. Cleveland and Hill shook hands most cordially. CLEVELAND'S ADDRESS. There was tremendous applause as Mr. Cleveland ascended the small platform. THE BE A TRIP OF THE FROM ASHEVILLE TO FRISCO. Asheville, N. C, June 20. The Asheville & Rutherfordton railway will be built, and active work on the proposed line will begin at once. The road will be built by George T. Canis of New York. The contract was signed today. A corps of en gineers and workingmen are in read iness to commence operations. Work on the proposed line will begin at the Rutherfordton end. The eontract gives Mr. Canis about four years in which to complete the road. The line, however, will be completed in perhaps just half this time. The lo cation of the line has not been de termined. The road will run via Fairview and will enter Asheville frem the southern part of the city. ' 'The building of this road means,' ' said one of the parties directly inter ested in the movement, "that San Francisco and all principal points on the Pacific coast, as well as to prin cipal cities on the Atlantic, may be reached from Asheville over, this line without change of cars."
