"WH1T.ES IjHAVJE. Xegroes "Were Ilacel in School "With Wliite Children and the Parents of tlie Lat ter AVitlidraw Tlieir Children From ' the School. The patrons of the Goodwin school, in Clark county, Indian, have taken a firm stand against their children attending school with ne gro pupil3 and have withdrawn them until the matter is settled. Near the school house lives a colored farmer named Sawyer. He owns his larm aud is regarded as a worthy citizen. He has no children, but his grandchildren live with him. Yesterday he took three of his grand children to school and had them en rolled as pupils, but as soon as the teacher assigned the children to seats all the while pupils picked up their books and left. A meeting of the parents was called and they definitely decided that if the "niggers" were taught in the school the white children should not attend. The trustees called upon Sawyer and asked him to send his grandchildren to a colored school some distance away. Sawyer stood on his rights and refused to send his grandchildren to the more distant school. The parents wanted the teacher to refuse instruction to the negroes, but she was advised that she could not do so. None of the whites will return to school unless the negroes are dismissed, and they will likelv be the only pupils in school this year. Marriage at I3 ikevillt . At the hom,e of the bride's father, at Pikeville, last night at 8 o'clock, in the presence of the faindy of the contracting parlies and a few well wishing friends, Mr. P. B. Scott and aud Miss Maud Smith, both of that place, were happily united in mar riage. The groom is the son of Ex-Sheriff B. F. Scott, and the bride is a daughter of-Mr. Jack Smith, son of the late Mr. J. P. Smith. Both of the parties are well known in this city, where they have many friends who wish them long life and happiness always. Jas. Taylor, of Kendallville, Ind., was seriously diseased with kidney and bladder trouble for 20 years. He tested every known remedy without much benefit, until he used Pineules. Referring to President Roosevelt's famous pension order No. 78y where in he usurped legislative authority, and the republican spell-binders' in auirv. "What are you eroiner to do about it?" Judge Parker, in his let terof acceptance, boldly announces "If elected 1 will revoke that or der." Thus the leader of the democratic hosts takes up the gauntlet thrown down by the violators of constitu tional law, and lifts on high the banner of right and honesty. Judge Parker's brave utterance on this subject is such a departure from the practice of the modern political aspirant as to command for him the respect and admiration of high minded men ot an parties ana to as sure to the democratic ticket the hearty support of that vast army of honest, independent voters, who look rather to the welfare and safety of the republic than to the euvee-- f either of the grtat political partita iu this conflict. j The utterance above quoted will go down in history with that of t Clay, who said, "I would rather be right thau he President," but it will more iully awaken the minds of the American voters to-day than did the words of Clay, spoken many years ago, when Ituoseveltism did not threaten the b lance scales, when the constitution was not harassed by executive usurpation and when cor ruption in high places did not so greatly jeopardize the liberties of the people. If it be true that courage enlarges resource, certain it is that Judge Parker has opened new fields for a cultivation of pusnotic democratic principles by this .ne answer to the republican part. . It demonstrates 'that he is to-day droned on truth and justice, wh ir fict qualifies him most nobly, in ch a crisis as this, for the highest f-eat in the gift of the American people. A Judicious Inquiry. A well known traveling man who visits the drug trade says he has often heard druggists inquire of customers who asked for, a cough medicine, whether it was wanted for a child or for an adult, and if for a child they almost invariably recommend Cham berlain's Cough Remedy. The reason for this is that they know there is no danger from it and that it always I cures. There is not the least danger in eiving it, and for coughs, colds and croup it is unsurpassed. For sale ' by Higgins Drug Co. Elijah has started something new. Some Seasonable Advice.
