" My face was afflicted with eczema
In the year 1897. I used the Cuticura

THREE LANDMARKS.
Some Interesting Reminiscences
of By-Gone Days.
The Akcus man "dropped in" at
the store of Capt. J. E. Peterson, this
afternoon, where three of Goldsboro's
oiaerft landmarks were in conversa
tion, surrounded by a number of our
citizens of much younger age, talking
about the scenes of by-gone days and
relating interesting reminiscences of
"ye olden times", which afforded
a great deal of amusement and un
usual pleasure to those present.
The three personages we have ref
erence to, were Messrs. J. M. Scott,
aged GO, V. It. Parker, aged 82 and
"Uncle" Jack Blackley, as his old
comrades please to call him, aged 85.
"Uncle" Jack was the central at
traction and being the older of the
trio, was spokesman.
Mr. Blackley was for years a res
ident of this city, but now makes
Fraukliuton his home. He was at
tending the .State meeting of the
Grand Ijodge of Masons, at llaleigh,
and came down to this city to pay a
visit to his old home and friends, and
is the guest of his good friend and
playmate of latter days, Mr. J. M,
Scott.
He is pleasantly remembered by
nauy of our citizens and is cordially
greeted on every hand,
Mr. Blackley says that he attended
die first court ever held in Goldsboro,
At that time he was a resident of old
Waynesboro, and it was customary
hi tiiose days to sell tobacco from a
vioverou wagon, ana especially aia
lsy expect a good trade during court
week when the farmers came to town
to fill up on barbecue, lay in a supply
of tobacco, swap horses, etc.
It was noised about the little vil
lage of iWaynesboab, near the Neuse,
that court was to be held in Golds
boro for the first time on a certain
date and a party of young fellows had
gathered at a starting point with
their covered tobacco wagons to take
their first trip to the cityt when a dis
pute arose as to who should go ahead,
so they drew straws, and Mr. Black-
ley says he was the lucky and proud
victor. He says that he was the
tiit man that ever drove up on the
ourt green, and that he hitched to
the oak : tree nearest Mr. Isaac F.
