C. Jlunroe, conducted the prosecution, au I very able speeches were made on both sides. The plea entered was self defense. It appeared from tne evidence that in the difficulty Pi?rks was the aggressor, and w.-ts advancing on one of the Jackson boys with kmie in Hand, when he was stricken the fatal blow by Jesse Jacks on. The J ude's charge to the jury was a very able and comprehensive one, reviewing in full the evidence, and citing the iavv in the case, and occu pied about an hour's time. At 15 minutes to 6 o'clock the case vas given to the jury, and Judge Council adjourned court and instruct ed the Clerk', it being agreeable to all parties concerned, to take the verdict. The jury filed out and inexactly 25 minutes returned and took their usual stand in front of the Clerk's desk. A breathless silence pervaded the enure court room as tae Cierk arose to take the verdict. - tientiemen, have you agreed in your verdict,"? says Clerk Ormond; "We have, came the prompt re sponse. ' Are,the defendants, Jesse Jackson, Will Jackson and .Luby Jackson, guilty or not guilty?" "Not guilty," came the quick re sponse from the foreman. "So say you all." And with a happy smile the de fendants marched out free. Judg- Yesterday was an unusually busy day in the Superior Court, and much business was transacted. In addition to a number of other cases disposed of, there were twelve convictions tor retailing without license. The following is a list of the cases tried and the j udgment of the court. State vs frank Pittman with deadly weapon; guilty, ment, $75 and cost. State vs Lou Hayes, retailing without license, two cases, guilty. Judgment, 6 months in county jail. State vs Hattie Hayes, retailing without license; guilty. Judgment, 2 months in county jail. State va George Wellons, retail ing without license; guilty. Judg ment, 6 months on county roads. State vs H. C. Crutchfisld, retail ing without license; guilty. Judg ment, 3 months on county r jads. State vs Jim Moore, retailing vithout license; defendant pleads uilty. Judgment, 6 months on ounty roads. State vs. Tom Raynor, Lloyd Hin- on and H. L. Daughtry, affray, uiity. Judgment 12 months on the oads for Raynor and $5.00 fine each yr the other defendants, and one- hir J the cost. State vs. Jesse Baity, assault with leadly weapon; guilty.
