G OLDSBOEO, N. C, JULY 4 . 1907 STANDARD OIL IN COKUT. The Sherman anti-trust law is being applied to the Standard Oil Company and. the subsidiary companies before Judge Landis of the United States dis trict court at Findlay, O. Fifteen hun dred indictments have been brought in, and a jury has disagreed in the trial of one of them. The jury stood seven for acquittal and five for conviction. The court ordered the jury discharged, and a new "jury will be selected, for the indictments are to be tried to a con clusion. In case of conviction the court may be asked to impose fines to the extent of $29, 000,000. Judge Landis-therefore wishes to be well informed in order that he may be just. He does not de sire to overtax the resources of the de fenda Hent. desires to know it the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey owns the Standard Oil Company of In diana, and he also desires to know what the resources of both are. He desires to procure this knowledge at first hands, and subpoenas have been issued for the Rockefellers, and Rogers and Arch bold and Pratt and Tilford. Chancellor Day's name was overlooked at Findlay, but this oversight may yet be corrected. The chancellor seems to know a great deal, and he should be made to tell. In the Grand American Handicap, M J Maryott, ot Fort Collins, Colo., shooting a Winches ter Shotgun and an Illinois amateur, Shooting "Leader" Shells tied with one other shooter. The Preliminery Han dicap was won Geo L Lyon, with a Winchester Shotgun. High average for the tournament was won by an "Illinois Amateur with Winchester Shells. This remarkable list of win nings for Winchester Shells and Guns in an entry of 452 of the very best shots in the country is incontrovertible proof of the high merit of these goods, which are growing more popular every year amongst all classes of shooters. Examinations For A. & M. College. Applicants for admission to the Ag ricultural and Mechanical College at Raleigh, will be examined by the County Superintendent of Schools in Jiis office at Goldsboro on Thursday, July 11th, at 10 o'clock.
