Holt died suddenly at his homo in Burlington about 2 o'cLck last Saturday, February 13th. He had recovered from an at tack of la'grippo "and waa in his usual health when taken violently ill Friday night. The -news of his death was received here with pro found regret his death 'u a loss to his native county awHhe State. Mr. Holt was the third sou of the late Edwin M. Holt. He was borli at the old homestead, near AJal mance Factory, April 21, 1;J, and was in the G4tli year f jiift-flge at his death. His lioyhood days were spent on the farm, except when in school, till he waa 18 years of ago, when he entered his lather's store as salesman. Later on he was con nected with the bank at this place and cashiar oftfthe bank at Thomasville, until he onlisted in the Coufi'deraie army in 1864. Soon after the close of the war he made his homo in (iridium, where . he resided over twenty Teats, and until he moved to Burlington about nine yers ago, which Was a. source much regret to his neighbors and friends here. For thirty, or more years he had been actively cng.igcd in cotton manufacturing, and was one of the owners of thj Cntoliua and Glencocf Cotton: Mills on Haw River. " He "was" alo a largo stock holder in And a director of the Commercial National Bank of Char lotte. Besides these, he Was pos sessed of considerable other property, Which had been accumulated --by frugality, industry and good bus iness management. ." ' But his life was not ono of cold business. Ho was genial, kind, social, and easy of approach; He was loud of his family and made his home a pleasant retreat for them. Mr. Holt's mother is still living. besides three brothers, Mr. m Holt, of Lexinxton, Mr. L. P. McCorkki, of Graham, who offer ed nn earnest prayer. Rev.
