Butler to Lose an Indian Rake-Off. Washington Dlapatob, n, to Qroeaboro New It was talked about the House cloakrooms today that there was not the least possibility of the House agreeing to the McCumber amendmen i relating to the Col ville Indian claims ease, by which Marion ifatler and other atorneys hope to secure a fee amounting to something Ilka SIOO,OOO. • Not only Judge Saunders, but Stephenson, of Texan, another member of the conference commit tee, has declared that he will never yield, and if these members adhere to this determination Mr. Butler and bis associates will lose out. For Mr. Bntlar something of the irony of fate ia aeen in the hostile attitude of Mr. Stephenson. But ler used some assertions made by the Texas member on the floor of , the House as a basis of his attack ( upon Judge Adams, an attack which got Butler involved in some highly unpleasant litigation, and now Mr. Stephenson is saying thinga about Mr. Butler and ia standing between the former Popnlist Senator and the fee, which would mean a small for tune to the average North Carolin ian. : Fully nine out of every ten cases of rheumatism is simply rheuma tism of the muscles due to cold damp, or ehronie rheumatism, neither of which require an inter nal treatment. EDITOR: In your last iisue you asked what had become of the Firemen's house, I will endeavor to answer, and also ask tbe citizens of Graham a ques tion: The Fire Department of Graham is a volunteer organization created for the benefit of homes and proper ty of Garham. Nearly all the mem bers are boys or young men, who own very little property in Graham. Now, it ia very hard on these boys to be called out at any time to fight fire at a great risk to life and health, and they have asked repeatedly for a place convenient to keep their equipment, etc., and have never otten any encouragemen V until recently. » The writer, as foreman of Graham Hose Co. No., 1 has had a very diffi cult time for over a year holding the company together, and has been al most compelled to disband, but we had a little banquet since Xraas and invited our town alderman to attend in joint meeting, and after explain ing the true situation, they heartily agreed to give us a place for head- Now, it seems that the property owners who are benefited more than anybody else, because Fire Insurance is a. lower rate when you have a good Fire Depart ment, have refused to sell any lot suitable for this building. We would like to have this question answered: Are our services ap preciated? If so, some one must sell a lot at a convenient place, and at an early date, or I cannot promise a continuation of Graham Hose Co. No. 1 very much longer. Respectfully WILL. S.
