Stringfield, Assistant Supt. of the North Carolina Anti- {Saloon League, will speak in the cohrt house at 4 p. m. next Sunday. —Mrs. C. P. Albright entertained Tuesday afternoon in honor of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Moore of Greensboro and Mrs. Edwin D. Scott. Col. Ffank Padgett, trainer and driver, left here Monday for Marion, Ind., with a string of race horses belonging to Dr. O. J. Paris and Mr. A. M. Hadley. —Thomas Store Co. has followed •nit in providing screened stands to keop fruits and vegetables out of reach of the flies., Let the other grocers do likewise. —Rev. J. Walker fell from a loaded wagon on the court house square Tuesday and fractured one of his legs. He was moving here from , Tarboro and into the T. A. Albright home on E. Elm St. — MOVED.—Mr? J. D. Vaughn has moved his shoe shop into the room at the East end of Mr. W. J. Nicks', Southeast side of court house square, . where he will be pleased to have his customers call when in need of work. —On the last Saturday afternoon in June the Sunny-Side Music Class under Mrs. W. A. Rich gave a recital that was thoroughly enjoyed by all whose privilege it was to be present. Mrs. Rich is a musician, gifted and.trained, and has that subtle art of inspiring her pupils to do the of which they are capa ble. On this occasion her skill was exemplified to the very best effect. Her large class rendered selections ■ in a manner that would do credit to a more pretentious occasion. Both teacher and pupils are to be con gratulated. . Big Birthday Dinner. Mr. Jesse M. Bradshaw, with his family, consisting of himself and wife son, sons-in-law, daughters, daugh ter-in-law, and grandchildren-'-ip all 26—went to Mr. Ed. laley's, Coble township, on June 30th to help him celebrate his 59th birth day. Mrs. Iseley is Mr. Bradshaw's sister, so besides being a birthday celebration it was also a family re union. In all there sat 72 people at dinner. Monday at last week lightning struck and killed a horse 'and burned a barn near Reepsvllle, Lincoln county. Along with the barn a wagon, farming tools aud 80 shocks of wheat were burned.
